Meditation Hike @ Fred G. Bond Metro Park ("Bond Park")

For this mediation hike we'll be walking on 3 interconnected loops - starting out on a greenway spur; then circling clockwise to walk on the Lake Trail (uneven, rocky/rooty surface), Paw Paw Trail (fairly even surface) and Pine Cone Trail (also a fairly even surface).  I'm estimating the total distance at 3 to 3.5 miles. 

Since this walk is naturally broken up into thirds, we'll be focusing on three different practices on these sections ... after walking-and-talking on the greenway until we shift onto the Lake Trail:

• Lake Trail - we'll be focusing on the external here-and-now.  Actually, you'll need to be fully present to the micro (trail surface) and you'll want to be fully present to the macro (lake views and accompanying wildlife).

• Paw Paw Trail - we'll be focusing on the internal here-and-now.  Since the trail is easier, our minds can easily wander, so we'll use this section to focus on breath, mantra and/or senses (what you see/feel/hear) ... more about this when we meet.

• Pine Cone Trail - we'll shift into gratitudes for this final stretch.  This trail has exercise stations on it ... for each station we'll shift into a new gratitude - holding the thought and feeling until the next station where we'll do the same for the next thankful.

Plan on 1.5 to 2 hours for this walk.  There are lovely places to sit at the end of the walk to journal, sit-in-silence, and/or talk with others.

    A little more structured than I was expecting. I'm used to doing this on my own and going with an inner flow, and large groups can throw me. Lovely walk, though, and overall challenging me to grow my focusing skills.

      Hi Kassi - Hopefully you can find your rhythm within the group - yes, it's different; and, it's always a balancing act (talk time/silence; walking speed; instruction/free form). I've chosen to provide direction so that those who are newer to meditation walking have some ideas to try out. You're free to use the silence however it works best for you.

    I truly enjoyed the total immersion in nature by hiking in silence this morning. I just got off the trails from another hike ... with a "walk and talk" hiking group @ Occoneechee Mtn. and realized that when I was on parts of the trail by myself I took the paths less traveled - finding a 30' climbable boulder at rivers edge; and a rock quarry with multicolored walls shooting up 100' ... these were missed by those in conversation. Silence truly allows me to see and hear differently!
