Question for Mid Island Transportation Safety Board

My question is... why did the prop blades shear?
Did the engine stop that abruptly that the momentum of the blades snapped them?
Or.... did he do something that broke the prop, & the overspeed caused the engine failure?
Comments from the MITSB?

One cannot know something without believing it to be true, however one can easily believe something without knowing it to be true...

Hi guys, I got this picture from Ryan from our club.   He asked me to send it out for him.  It is a shot taken by one of his friends of the plane that landed on rt 231 in West Islip.   Enjoy, Frank the Hitchhiker
