What do you do when you lose your engine?

You are cruising along at 6000 ft msl with a 10 knot headwind doing 140 knots true airspeed. Suddenly, your engine quits & will not restart. According to your GPS, the nearest airport is 12 nautical miles ahead of you at sea level, and there are no other suitable landing spots visible. Your best glide speed is 75 kts, and you have a 10 to 1 glide ratio. Which option would give you the best chance of making that field: Physics majors, please feel free to use your slide rules.... (that's an old fashioned calculator for all you younger people...)

Instrument approach procedure

You are happily flying home IFR along Victor 16. Shortly after crossing JFK they descend you to 3000 ft. You get the ATIS @ ISP & they are using ILS 6. The controller vectors you to fly heading 120 & instructs you to contact approach on 118.0. After acknowledging you, the 118.0 controller instructs you to fly heading 080 to join the localizer. Upon capturing the localizer, what do you do next?
