Compatibilism is the topic for this meeting, arguably the favored position of most professional philosophers with respect to the free will/determinism problem. There is a reading assignment: “Compatibilism,” from the Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy. This is a rather long article, but it is not particularly difficult nor technical.
We are opening up the meeting to more participants this time, but, if we feel that there are too many for a good discussion, we may break into more than one group. People who are too ornery will end up as a group of one.
