Social Meetup ' The Barn' RSVP's By Wednesday prior to event

This Meetup is setup for Members to get together and have a chilled out relaxed chat... where new members who have never been before can introduce themselves and just say Hi

You will be warmly welcomed and shall feel at home in a very short time, so don't worry we have all been there before and it is a bit strange for the first time, BUT we are very friendly!!

The Barn for this event is quite a nice pub so if anyone feels peckish then why not have something to eat at reasonable prices. Also there is no loud music to distract people and everyone can talk in a comfortable atmosphere.

At the end of the night some member decide to carry on and go to places more lively in town, everyone welcome.

Please note this event is very popular with members with numbers sometimes getting to the 35 mark therefore I need to give numbers to the pub so they can prepare tables and to ensure enough bar staff are available so please rsvp as I need to book this two days before the event. Thanks Jools :-)

Good event but no organisation on the night - should be someone looking out for new people and pulling them into the group - some form of introductions would make a lot of people more comfortable.

I totally second Jane. Gladly we don't get comments like those very often as there wouldn't be anyone left to organise anything. I was a newbie once too and never expected the organiser to babysit me in any way.

Now could we all please end this? It is serving no useful purpose and spoiling what was an enjoyable evening......

This regular event at The Barn is a good opportunity to meets lots of members and it's ideal for many newbies but it's not for everyone. Even some regular members find it daunting. It was a particularly big group on Friday, with a lot of newbies and only 1 host due to unforeseen circumstances. We need more people to help host this event.

The hosts come for a good night out too. I don't think it's reasonable to expect them to stand at the door all night, greeting people. We look out for new faces and introduce ourselves, but other people do the same - newbies and stalwarts alike - and then they slip into the natural flow of conversation. Personally, I don't think it's a good idea to take newbies around introducing them to lots of people initially. There are too many names to remember! It's better to get into conversation with a small group and then branch out from there.

Everyone is welcome to mingle as much or as little as they like. You get out of it as much as you give.

If anyone would like to get involved with hosting The Barn and/or other events, please contact me. There is no pressure on anyone to attend every time, but it would be good to have a team of hosts that newbies can look out for.

No problem with the organisation of the venue as good space and location. If you had been there then you would have been your usual good host - I am happy to volunteer when time permits. This is not meant to be an attack just useful feedback which we are all asked to provide and comments I heard from many myself last night - it is my view that if a volunteer host is putting themselves forward then they should be just that - a host - which I personally did not see.last night.

Thanks for the update but personally do not feel that going to smaller meetings is the solution either. We first went to a smaller meeting but had to do all the introductions ourselves. A larger group at least gives you a better chance of finding people who share your interests etc. If someone wants to be an organiser or host then there should be a responsibility on them to act as central point of contact so new people know who they are looking for and then they can be introduced to at least one group before finding their own way. These are good events but lack that personal welcome for newcomers in my view which can easily stop them coming back.

Thank you for making me feel welcome last night, I didn't meet and talk to everyone there but the few I did get to talk to were great. Especially Charlotte who saw me walk in alone and stand in the corner, then Practically dragged me over to meet people

As The Barn is closed at present, if it is going to be closed for the Social on Friday 8th November, how about switching it to Wetherspoons (where we have the Curry nights') until it is open again?
