"LAKOTA PRAYER TIES" Community Workshop

  • Jul 25, 2014 · 7:30 PM
  • Transformational Healing Center

A beautiful and sacred tradition of the Lakota and many indigenous people around the world is the assembly of prayer ties to offer prayers to Tunkashila, Grandfather, Great Spirit for yourself, your family, your friends, and the world.

Join us this Friday for a special Lakota prayer ties community workshop as we join together respectfully to say prayers, assemble traditional prayer ties, enjoy Lakota ceremonial music and pay respect to this beautiful native tradition. No experience necessary. Everyone welcome. All you’ll need is some red cotton cloth, tobacco, string, scissors and a good heart.

At the end of this ceremony all of the prayer ties will be connected into a single strand and then taken to South Dakota in two weeks for a Sundance ceremony on the Rosebud reservation. The prayer ties will be respectfully wrapped around the Sacred Tree on the night of Tree Day, Wednesday, August 6th, eight hours before the beginning of the sacred four-day Holy Circle Sundance in St. Francis, South Dakota.

We will be honored to have a native elder, Papa Nick Sanchez, with us to discuss this sacred Lakota tradition and native ways. Everyone welcome, no religion, no dogma, no judgment, no expectations, just an excellent group of like-minded individuals gathering together in a supportive, divinely-protected, sacred space. No charge for this event. If needed, please bring a few dollars to cover the cost of fabric and tobacco to assemble your prayer ties if you need some provided.

Good prayers, good energy, fantastic closing ceremony. It sometimes gets extremely hot and uncomfortable in the sacred circle during the four days of prayers and sacrifice at the Lakota Sundance ceremony in South Dakota. I will be strengthened by the energy of the prayer ties we made together that will be wrapped around the Sacred Tree for the entire ceremony AND gladly remember the beautiful, cleansing shower we all shared in the park. Aho, mitakuye oyasin (all my relations).

Excellent idea to have our Lakota prayer ties done outside! At the park, surrounded by trees and barefoot on the grass! Loved it! :)

As an aside, I have a large piece of quartz crystal and I wondered if bringing it the healing center would be a wise way to attune its vibrational character to a positive state? Or would it introduce a bit too much of its flavor of energy to an otherwise balanced space? ^_^
