Matisse - The Master at MIA - along with Jazz and selfies FREE

                                     MATISSE MADNESS

Free Event.  Optional downloadable audio tour for phone or tablet links below.

http://new.artsmia.org/event/third-thursday-matisse-madness/

Behold vivid, shockingly bold work by a 20th-century master of color, shape, and balance.

Spanning six decades of Matisse’s prolific career, with an emphasis on the artist’s earliest works, this special exhibition features 50 works of painting and sculpture, 30 prints, and the artist’s book Jazz.

Most of the artworks are drawn from the legendary Cone Collection, assembled by two Baltimore sisters–Dr. Claribel Cone and Miss Etta Cone–with an unrivaled passion for modernism and Matisse.

A companion exhibition featuring works by Matisse in the MIA’s collection will further enrich this magnificent body of work.

This exhibition is organized and circulated by The Baltimore Museum of Art.

I was there, with my seven year old grandson, right on time, met shortly with the group, then my grandson took over as my tour guide. No time to dilly dally on any Matisse works he didn't like. He insisted we skip straight past them until. BAM. Magic happened! Connection. I posted numerous photos, all taken by him, of his very favourites, and a few of us and our Matisse inspired art work. We had a bloody splendid evening and I'm grateful for the MEET UP and the reminder about Third Thursdays. Although my pocket book isn't pleased with the expenditures on the poster and colour book in the gift shop! Thank you! Cheers.

Fantastic pictures. I think it is amazing the Baltimore let so many of these go out on loan. A real treasure.

I agree. AND they allowed photos! I believe I'll sit down with my grandson and write thank you notes to them!

I was there, it was excellent, but I couldn't find you. I even asked at the membership/ticket desk and they had no record of this group coming. They said it's not necessary to notify them, but it helps in assisting the meet-up. Free was awesome. The usual price for the Matisse exhibit is $16 weekdays, $20 weekends.

Todd, Thanks for your efforts. I arrived late, had my phone at the ready but discovered my phone had no reception in the building. I didn't notice that until after I sent a text. You probably received a delayed transmission after I left the building around 9 p.m., at which point your probably wondered, "Why is idiot contacting me now?"

Learning experience for all for dealing with this sort of thing. We learn. Next time we are in heavy crowds we need the leader to wear identifiable clothing, like a different color shirt. My standard blue business shirt would be useless. Maybe next time I will wear my black Zoro cape and flame orange zuit suite. :) Sorry everyone! We learn for next at bat.

If you are late we will start at the top floor where you will find us. After that, I was advised by someone in the know to go into the Matisse exhibit before too late. That usually costs $16 but tonight is free!

We will meet under-and-to-the-side-of the yellow hanging sculpture near the entrance. Everyone meet there at 5:40-5:50 pm. Here is a picture of the sculpture.

Tracy our leader may be just a bit late getting back from a business meeting so I will check everyone in if she is not there yet. My phone number is[masked] to text me.

If you are a little late, you can find the group looking at art on the top floor until Tracy and the group leads where we will go next for fun socializing, enjoying music, etc. that evening. So if you are late, find us on the top floor.

One (or many) goals for the evening. By 7 pm-ish, name one piece of art you liked most that night and why, and name one piece that just did not do it for you and why.

I may need to leave early. See everyone there!

The Museum meetup group has also scheduled this night for its tour. They have 98 signed up. It will be really crowded. Where will we rendezvous? Should we determine a clothing color to identify ourselves?

This is a definite strong maybe. I find it Saturday what day my Children's Theatre tickets will be for... So, if they're not for Thursday, then I will be there with my seven year old grandson. I'll change my reservation Saturday, if necessary.
