Writing is challenging, but summing up your story to make an enticing blurb or synopsis can be an exercise in frustration. How do you retell you novel in just a few words? What do you leave out? What details do you keep? We will have Michael Merriam talk with us about writing blurbs for books, and we will also try to write blurbs or opening synopsis paragraphs for each other's stories. Bring your stories and your story summaries with you.

Join us in the community room at the Uptown Lunds for reading, eating, and greeting with your fellow speculative fiction writers. New or inactive members, this is a great opportunity to connect or reconnect. If you've had a sale or publication, bring your happy news - - if you've had a crushing rejection, let us commiserate. Please indicate in your RSVP if you are planning to read.

If you haven't attended a Meetup at this location before, here's the scoop: Lunds in Uptown has a community room upstairs that is quiet, free and has great bus access. Even better yet, it has a fabulous deli but is not a restaurant. So we can brown bag our own lunches or buy a lunch there. The deli selection includes salads, sandwiches, soups and sushi. If you are going to be getting your food from Lunds, please arrive fifteen minutes early to pick out your food before the meeting.

    •  Fun presentation and discussion. Loved Michael's handouts.
    •  In a world of ho-hum Meetups, Michael's bone-shattering presentation rocketed forward with incisive, gut-wrenching truths. It sent chills up AND down my spine! A tour de force, 35% better than any other presentation this member has experienced. I laughed. I cried. Thank you Michael Merriam.
    •  Discussion was a little unfocused; I think it needed more preparation by more people.
    •  Great insight from Michael on what to include (and where to even start) when drafting blurbs. Thanks for the tips!
