SUMMARY:A Klingon Christmas Carol
DESCRIPTION:MinnSpec -- Minnesota Speculative Fiction Writers\n\nCharles Di
ckens' famous story adapted into Klingonese\, with English supertitles and
narrative analysis from The Vulcan Institute of Cultural Anthropology. Pre
sented by Mixed Blood. Full details available at the theatre's website: ww
w.mixedblood.com/mainstage/a-klingon-christmas-carol. You must buy your ow
n ticket\; I selected this performance because it offers the opportunity to
get a discount on your ticket in exchange for donating canned goods. I thi
nk these are intended for human food banks\, so they probably do not want K
lingonese viands\, however. The show starts at 8:00\; we will assemble in
front of the building at 7:30 to establish a defense perimeter within the a
uditorium. Don't be late! Blood wine and other corrosive liquids are proba
bly not allowed in the theatre\, so if you bring them\, we suggest using in
 nocuous containers.\n\nMinneapolis\, MN 55454 - USA\n\nMonday\, December 7

SUMMARY:ESP (East St Paul) Minnesota Speculative Fiction Writers
DESCRIPTION:MinnSpec -- Minnesota Speculative Fiction Writers\n\nOnce again
we'll be meeting at Davanni's Pizza at I-94 and White Bear Ave. There are
two party rooms in the back and we set up in there. (We are the intelligent
-looking bunch!) Our topic of discussion will be Creating Cultural Frame
works. How does your "world" work? What are the norms and beliefs that guid
e and/or restrict your protagonist? How much of this background is necessar
y to keep your world engaging to the reader? After the discussion\, we w
ill do critiques of the items submitted. We are kindhearted and helpful wit
h your work so do not fear! If you have something you'd like to submit\, cl
ick on Files in the drop-down box and follow the instructions. Be sure to p
reface your submission with . To critique other's submissions for the mee
ting\, print out a copy and make notes on it for the writer. We're looking
for a variety of impressions\, so don't worry about doing it "right". We ne
ed to know what the reader thinks--and that's whoever is reading it. By cri
tiquing the work of others\, we become better writers. As always\, submis
sions must be added to Files at least seven days prior to the meetup (Dec.
1st). The word count must be less than 10\,000 words. There can be no mor
e that 3 submissions per month. Hope to see you there!\n\nSaint Paul\, M

SUMMARY:Retrofits Writers Group
DESCRIPTION:MinnSpec -- Minnesota Speculative Fiction Writers\n\nRetrofits
is NOT an official workshop of the MinnSpec writer's network\, but we do po
st notices of our meetings here so that prospective members can find us.
The Retrofits writer's group has been in existence for about seven years
. Retrofits used to be associated with MISFITS\, but is currently independe
nt. Here's how Retrofits works: any member may ask to have the rest of
the group critique his/her work. The piece to be critiqued is to be forwar
ded to the facilitator at least one week in advance of the meeting (Though
we are currently considering the possibility of posting stories here in the
files section soon). We do a round robin style critique with members comme
nting verbally on the major things that they like and dislike about the wor
 k. Members often give the person being critiqued a written copy of the stor
y with minor suggestions also. Perspective members are welcome to sit
in for a meeting or two. We are primarily oriented towards speculative fict
ion\, but have also covered other types of writing for members. Questi
ons about Retrofits can be directed to Ricky Foos\, who is MinnSpec's offic
ial liaison with the Retrofits writing group. You can drop Ricky an e-
mail via this link: http://scifiwriting.meetup.... /?recipientId=159285
