I'm a writer of the "a few published short stories, a few unpublished novels" ilk. My website is at http://www.aswieb...
and I blog at http://cloudscudd...
.
I write all types of spec-fic; I've even accidentally committed mainstream literature a time or two. My short stories have been accepted at Art Times, Alienskin Magazine, Allegory, and Dark Krypt Horror Zine. Serenade of Blood & Silver, a fantasy about a drifter who rescues an abused horse that is not what it seems. In the second (or is it third?) draft phase, I have Vicesteed, a steampunk science fiction novel that is a locked-room murder mystery and exploration of how society forms identity. Most of what I'll be trying to get critiqued here will be short stories, however.
I went to the meeting at CONvergence. I'm looking for someplace I can get short stories critiqued at while my Critters slot is tied up with my novel. And just in general, more critiquing is always good.

Authors who don't care for reading?
"It's usually a handicap for a writer if they don't read extensively in the genre they write in. Also, I'd say that if you don't enjoy reading fiction, it's much harder to understand what other people would enjoy reading in your book...."
"Golly, that month went by fast. 1. Tales of the Gods sample, by Orindae 2. Shadow Summit Chaps 1-2 , by Dana Baird 3. Vicesteed, chs. 33-34 (THE END), by Abra Staffin Wiebe 4. 5."
"And..."Missing You In Pieces," which was critted in the workshop, has been accepted by the Dead Bells Anthology. It's been a good month!"
Nanorimo (or however it is spelled).
"NaNoWriMo seemed like too much of a time commitment, so I am doing Nano WriMo instead--a short story written over the course of a month in small (nano) twitter-sized chunks...."
"My science fiction story, "Salvaging Scottwell," has been officially accepted by Baen's Universe! This is my first pro sale, so I'm really, really excited!!!!!!!!! (The exclamation points are a hint.)"

"Should this be pinned to the top?..."
how many words do you write in a day and what is the standard.
"When I'm working my part-time job, I know that my goal should be 1,000 words/day. If I don't have anything else, it should be 2,000. I arrive at this figure because when the writing is flowing well, I write about 500 words/hr...."
"Gee, I always submit rough draft! Of course, I flatter myself that my first draft is relatively clean. At least nobody's fled running from it (yet), though it was close for that "Missing You In Pieces" story...."
The Shameless Self-Promotion Discussion
"Spec the Halls is back! Spec the Halls is a contest for speculative winter holiday-themed fiction, artwork, and poetry...."
"Oh, great advice! Myself, I know I need to work on putting pauses between words!"
