Introduction

Hello again! I am a former member who would like to return to the fold. Like the proverbial "bad penny" I just keep showing up.

What sort of stories do you write? And if you have anything published, tell us about it (even if it's not SF.) We love to hear about all your successes.

I have no publishing successes to date but I enjoy writing fantasy and some (very light) Sci Fi. I am currently working on four novels: two are fantasy, one is urban fantasy and one is Sci Fi with a possible YA focus.

What brings you to the SF Writers Meetup? Is there anything that you hope the group will do for you?

I want to connect with other F/SF writers both locally and further afield. I am interest in becoming involved in critique groups and sharing information regarding submission markets and strategies but I am mainly here for the like-minded company.

    Present Tense - Past Tense?

"There are those people who prefer one tense over another [I know that I have my own preferences both when writing and reading] but the main thing that I demand when reading something is consistency...."

    How to Plot ?

"Regarding plotting, I am one of those people that likes an outline. I'm OK writing short stories without an outline but for anything longer I need to plot things out as part of my process...."

Authors who don't care for reading?

"Conrad and Dana both make great points: reading others' work is just as much about learning what works as what doesn't work...."

Authors who don't care for reading?

"I can't speak for everyone, but it's always been my impression that most authors are also readers. I don't, however, think that reading = being a writer...."

    Protecting your bits and bytes

"And I thought that I was being paranoid when I e-mailed copies of things to myself...thanks for giving my paranoia a basis in fact, Conrad! And thanks for the additional links."

    Protecting your bits and bytes

"Thanks for the link, Pat. It makes me realize just how many of those "suggested" rules we break daily at my law firm. But honestly, if we called everyone who sent us an attachment or web link, none of us would ever get off the phone!..."

Nanorimo (or however it is spelled).

"I decided to take the plunge as well, Ricky. My computer at the new house is finally hooked up and I plan on spending my free time trying to boil through a novel idea I had a couple of years ago. Anyone else taking the plunge?"

Introduce Yourself, and tell us what you write!

"Welcome to the group, Mike. I think you'll find that, despite hints to the contrary, we're an un-scary bunch. Most of us, anyway..."

    Copyright or Copywrong

"After spending almost 8 years as an IP paralegal, you better believe that I am sensitive to copyright infringement. I would definitely take action if someone used any portion of my work without my permission...."
