MOJO is designed for individuals who share and interest in playing music. This includes any style of acoustic instrument (guitar, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, harmonica, ukulele, bass, etc...) and a basic fundamental knowledge of chords (A, C, D, E, G, etc ). Our objective is to create an environment where people can jam in a relaxed way. Participants have varied skill levels and we typically play a mix of music that allows less skilled people to play along.
Playing along with others is a great way to have fun and learn new skills and song. Most important is your willingness to share your playing knowledge, experience, thoughts, opinions, your likes and dislikes, your questions and your tips.
We meet often in private homes or other venues throughout the city. There is no fixed schedule and members schedule to host an event when they wish. On occasion there may be opportunities to play at events like singalongs or other events.
Music jams are conducted, on average, once or twice a month, with emphasis on sharing pieces you've composed, sharing music pieces you like and sharing your music passion with others.
All members are free to host jamming events, at their home or a venue you choose/arrange. You are also free to define the nature of the event, a theme, genre, or perhaps an objective like song writing, beginner players, advanced players - whatever - as host you can choose. This is unlike some other organizations where a central group plans all events.
This group operates through 'Meetup.com' and so we need to cover the fees for this. Participants at each jam may drop voluntary contributions into a donation can ($1 suggested). The objective is to just cover the costs of these fees and not make profit beyond that.
May we all become better musicians, one note at a time.
Welcome and enjoy!
