Galloping into the Year of the Horse!

Hello my Multicultural Family,

We are galloping into a great new Year of the Horse soon... this Friday, January[masked]!

It's time for 2 weeks of Chinese New Year celebrations! Despite the extraordinarily cold Polar Vortex, I hope you are all keeping warm and having a great start this year. Please join me in bringing in new tidings and galloping in the Year of the Horse with a HOT start!

As it's a seat-down-cook-yourself Hotpot Buffet (BringYourOwnBottle), this year I decided to spread the food celebration into different days so I can try to catch up some chats with everyone:

• HOTPOT1 on Friday 1/31, 1p to 5p and 7p-11p

• HOTPOT2 on Sat 2/1, 7p to 11p.

We can play Mahjong or cards while waiting for turns at the Hotpot. It's short notice as the pot has to stay hot! ;) I've capped 12 spots per event so everyone can try get a spot to cook. However, don't despair if you cannot make it, watch out the next posting for Prosperity Tossing within 14 days of continued celebrations! That event will have more spots available.

I'll have hot broth for the wintery cold, spicy hot favorites for the hot-blooded, and also a vegetarian fondue special! Please RSVP by this Thursday, 11.55p and tell me the preferred time you are coming so I can get a headcount and food prep ready for the fiestas. I'll email the address to all after RSVP closes. See ya'll soon!

BTW, my adventure seekers group started making our first batch of home brew wine last weekend! It's not ready for this week's celebration, but will be soon for wine tasting! Anyone interested in making wine and/or brewing beer, please feel free to reach me on this website or connect via my google cell (below). See y'all soon!

Best Regards,
Audrey Chan

It was a great time. Thanks Audrey for all the great and generous amount of food! So good to see you again, next time we will have to help you cook so you can be more a part of the gang. Mahjong was fun and entertaining. Will have to do it again! Thanks!

Hi, I hope everyone who attended had a great experience! Saw Val's version - noodles cooked from the Hotpot broth n eaten with chicken curry, hey that's another local fav from Singapore! Enjoyed the several rounds of mahjong; think we should introduce this game at future gatherings so more can have a hand at it! ;)

    Hi Audrey,
I haven't been in one of those Hot Pot gathering s before. It sounds like fun. What do I need to bring other than something to drink?

Although I'm sure there are many and more complex variations, this video seems to break down the basics of Mahjong pretty well:

I actually have a Mahjong set that I picked up in Asia, but I've never learned to play. I'll bring it along!
