Hey there! I would like to suggest a meet up! :)
I work for Afinia and we just launched our 3D Printer and I would like to plan a launch party with my fellow 3D Innovators! Let me know what you think! :)

Anyone have thought about the form1 printer on Kickstarter:

I think it's very cool if your goal is just demonstration prototyping. Otherwise the resin is very expensive and does not have the mechanical properties of ABS.
do you have a way of comparing the strength of the two Resin - vs - ABS I mean a website for me to review.
Specifics on their (apparently proprietary) resin are pretty slim as far as I can tell. I've looked into other available resins that may be useable for a DIY SLA machine and, just for ballpark comparisons, on the lower end there are UV adhesives like Loctite 3105 and Dymax 3099 with ultimate tensile strengths of around 20 MPa and on the really high end there are materials like Somos ProtoTherm 12120 with around 70 MPa tensile strength. Extruded ABS strength can vary a lot depending on process parameters, but I think the average is around 40 MPa tensile strength.

The lower end resins (20 MPa) cost around $225/liter so given the price Formlabs is claiming of $150/liter for their resin, I wouldn't expect it to be much better than half the tensile strength of ABS. Of course, it's possible they have some really awesome chemists working for them and they found a really strong and cheap formula, but I wouldn't count on it until they release some specifics and people have tested printed parts to verify the properties.
Just found this source for ABS on the Makerbot Google list. I've not used any of it but thought I would pass it along. Interestingly low price, at the very least, if shipping from China.

I ordered a few kilograms from Repraper and the quality was good. The shipping price will kill you, though, unless you order several kg at a time.
Thanks for the heads up. I just ordered some glow in dark and color changing ABS! After shipping it's still cheaper than other suppliers' non specialty offerings.
Here's a link to some reviews of their product: http://forums.reprap....
I've posted the gear toy I was showing at the Meetup to Thingiverse: http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:30981

Great turnout and enthusiasm from everyone.
It occurred to me tonight to share the following link. Craig lives in Chicago and periodically posts on all things 3D. You can subscribe if you like via email under "follow." Check it out first and find some solid 3d links. http://craigmclark.rifr.com/beep-boop-print/

Cool blog! Here's a link to the Stratasys Exoskeleton video: http://www.youtube.co... that I mentioned at the meetup.
Love that blog. Great stuff. Thanks to everyone for coming out last night. The Mill loves having folks with such enthusiasm around. Come back anytime.
Great Meet up! Glad everyone was able to make it out!
Great. Thanks all for sharing your enthusiasm.
Thanks to everyone that was able to make it to the 3D printer meet up tonight! It was a pleasure meeting all of you! If you have any questions please feel free to shoot me a email. [masked]

Are people on planning on bringing printers or are we just chatting about them? Never been to one of these meets before.

There will be printers there that the Mill houses. I'll also bring my Thing-O-Matic.
I will be bringing my Afinia H-Series 3D Printer as well.

Forgive my ignorance, but I have never been to the Mill. For this event do we need to be members? What cost would be associated with this event?
No cost. All are welcome. You would only need to be a member to use equipment the Mill has.
Yes, this I can do. I was gonna recommend The Mill.

I would like to attend too, I have a reprap 3d printer that isn't working currently but I'm very interested in learning more. When and where is this going to take place?
I have a working Lulzbot Prusa Reprap. You need a part or something?
Unfortunately no, I took the risk of buying the cheapest 3d printer available, the $350 see me cnc h1 3d printer kit (http://shop.seemecnc....). I bought it in the original kickstarter phase and it had a lot of bugs to the instructions and the parts. It required a lot of eletrical work and soldering. However, the only thing I need to figure out is an electrical problem with the heating resistors and the circuit board that control it and the thermisistor. Last time I hooked it up, it short ciruited my power supply. I got a replacement power supply by I'm not much of an expert at electronics and I don't want to burn it out again. Besides that, I have all the parts and the printer is assembled.
I hope you can get it working soon. I took the easy way out and bought a preassembled Prusa from Lulzbot. It is a fun hobby stick with it, you'll get it going. :)
