Casual MTG at Eagle and Empire in Alexandria

It’s baaack…

Come join us for a casual MTG get together this Thursday the 27th from 5:30-10pm at Eagle and Empire Games, located at 1520 Belle View Boulevard in Alexandria:

http://www.eagleandempire.net/

Our events are multiplayer, so please try to arrive on time. Plenty of free parking and food options are available (note that E&E closes promptly at 10pm, and the owner asks that all drinks have containers w/ caps).

IMPORTANT: If you plan on attending, please RSVP! If we have more than six players, we will need to adjust locations!

The Group:

This is a small (but steadily growing) group. We meet every other weekday evening (W or TH). We are all casual players - working folks with families and kids. Some of us are veteran players, with others having various levels of experience. If you enjoy trying out new decks, helping others learn, and a low stress, easy going vibe, then PLEASE, come on by and join in the fun!

The Format:

Format is EDH/Commander, w/ perhaps some other formats as time allows. If you're just getting back into the game, feel free to bring along what you have, and we'll make it work (we have extra decks you can borrow!)

How We Role:

1) We play for fun. That means we allow ‘take backs’ if you make a mistake (within reason, of course). It means we allow others to help you, but only when you ask for help (we don’t ever want players to feel like they’re being ‘told’ how to play). Mostly, though, it means we don’t tolerate general meanness.

2) We support our venue. Honestly, if you owned a business, the last thing you would want is people squatting at a table for hours, just taking up space. If we’re at a game shop, try to buy something. If we’re at a pub/restaurant, get a sandwich. Moochers suck.

3) We encourage the use of proxies. Our general rule of thumb for proxies is, “So long as you aren’t proxying simply for the sheer beat down value of the card (Mox’s, Time Walk, 4th Edition Dual Lands, etc.), then basically you’re good”. The idea of proxing is to access cards (that are either too expensive or hard to find) for the *fun* value, not the *win* value (http://magic.bluebones.net/proxies/ and http://magiccards.info are excellent resources).

No worries Jared. Our next get together will be week after next - and it looks like we're going to have to find a venue that can host more than six!

It was great to meet everyone tonight and to play some EDH. I do need to apologize that I inadvertently made an illegal play, which I just now realized after I returned home and was telling my wife about the game. I had a Glacial Chasm out (http://gatherer.wizards.com/pages/card/Details.aspx?multiverseid=288996) and attacked during my two final turns, when that card clearly states that I can't attack. I don't think it actually changed the outcome though, since the damage I did during my second-to-last-turn was pretty small, and I would have just elected not to pay the upkeep during the final turn when I swung with everyone. Still, my apologies for the mistake.

No worries... I forgot that card worked that way too . I don't think it would have changed much of anything with the board position you were in. Thanks for the follow up though and it was nice meeting you!

      That's it - Banned. 50 demerits. -100 DKPs.

Nate said it right, Vinny. No big deal at all. You would have had that game regardless. Mass defense is an excellent multiplayer tactic, and you played it to a tee.

Look forward to seeing you next time!

Some quick notes for tonight’s get together:

IMPORTANT: WE HAVE A SIX-SEATER TABLE RESERVED! If we get 7+ show up, we will need to adjust. The best option may be to head down to a local spot with more seating (there are a few choices in downtown Alexandria, best of which may be La Madeline – plenty of open seating, and we’ve been there before). Otherwise, we may have issues. If anyone has any ideas, I’m all ears.

About E&E - - If you want to have a drink, be sure it’s capped. The owner is a stickler for this. Bottled drinks are sold at Subway next door.

    - Speaking of Subway, that’s where the bathrooms are.

    - Our table has hard plastic seating. Bring a cushion/sweater to sit on if you want some comfort (I’m lookin’ at you, Eliza…)

As always, text me at[masked] w/ any questions.

If we hit 7, Im happy to sit out - believe me, its okay by me. As of this note, we have seven (because Maki is bringing an extra)

Best option would be a venue that has something more than a six-seater bench table. Any ideas? I *may* be able to host at my place, but that will depend on whether my wife can be home from work in time to corral the doggies.

Stay tuned to this channel for late breaking developments!.

We might be over 6 people at this point... It might be rough squishing us all in at our normal table... We may need a new night or location soon! This is a good problem to have

CJ and I plan to be there, and we may want to try a 2HG game if we can find another team to play.

I may not be able to stay for the full 5:30 - 10 time, but I'll definitely come by for at least 1 EDH game.
