Nic's Return to DC and Magic!

Well, I am at long last returning home, after more than a year of traveling abroad for work. It has been great, but I definitely missed out on Magic and hanging out with everyone.

That being said- its time to celebrate, Magic style. I had some ideas in mind, and I think this time around we should do some EDH and Legacy. I was also thinking of doing some 2HG (two-headed giant) with limited prize support. [rules for the different formats EDH/Legacy/2HG at bottom].

So the only scheduled event to take place will be a 2HG EDH contest between everyone interested (start around 3):

Prize for winning 1st place in 2HG- 4 packs of Theros

Prize for winning 2nd place in 2HG- 2 packs of Theros

Prize for everyone else- free beer!

The 2HG event won't take all day, in fact I don't think it will take long at all, depending on interest in and turnout. So aside from that, I encourage free play. Bring a test your decks, do some large multiplayer games, bring a cube... whatever you want! Casual play will probably be the focus, but competitive decks are very welcome.

You can show up as early as  noon, but official start time is 2.

I should have plenty of beers and snacks available, in fact I am told that we still have an excess of beer from the last time we had a meetup... so help me drink it.

Hope to see you all there!

---------------

If you don't have EDH or Legacy decks, we will gladly loan you some. If you are unfamiliar with the formats, we can teach you as we play. If you want to make your own decks, here are the rules here (Legacy here, EDH here).

Two-headed Giant is a multiplayer variant of Magic that puts two players with two decks as one team. Since you are just two heads, attached to one giant body.. that means you share life total and takes your turns at the same exact time. You attack and block together. Teams will be chosen randomly.

Is this open to anyone on the Meetup group? Is there any entrance fee? I don't have much in the area of legacy (a couple crappy modern decks), but I have 4 EDH decks that I play regularly... I would be interested in 2HG or anything else for that matter!

Hey Nate, at least one person is crashing with me tonight and coming. I'm planning on driving, but I'm not sure how early I am leaving or when I am coming back. You guys are welcome to ride with us though.

We may end up driving ourselves. It might be easier this time around. That way we don't have to leave our stay early or late or whatever

Hey I'm pretty new to the area and I'm a total noob to mtg. I haven't played in like 7 or 8 years but this sparked my interest. Looking forward to meeting you all and getting into mtg again

Also should add that cards like Propoganda, Moat, Fog etc., things that count life total, etc., typically apply to both players. Josh or I have final say on all issues as far as this is concerned.. But most important rule? Just have fun....

We have a LOT of spare EDH decks that people can borrow, if they don't want to use their own or don't have one.

It is. Perhaps the most fun you can have in Magic. We'll do random pairing, and hope no one gets an OP combination!

This looks really fun, but unfortunately I'll be out of town that weekend. Maybe next time.

Just like old times, Josh. You can show up with a toolbox and tell me how many things are broken :p .. but actually I am planning to remodel/renovate a bit. New furniture even.

Hey Nate- this is totally open to everyone. First come, first serve... seats can be tight at my place with large groups, however I will be getting an extra table when I get back. As for Legacy- yes you can totally borrow decks. We have a gazillion of them between us all. We also have some Modern decks if thats your thing. And we LOVE EDH.. at least most of us do. So definitely bring that. What generals do you like to play? (or if thats a surprise, thats cool too).
