Rachel Day in Rachel, NV May 17, 2014

Rachel Day is celebrated each year on the third Saturday in May, with the traditional parade, crafts fair, live music and food. Each year, locals and many visitors celebrate the anniversary of the town of Rachel, which was officially founded in 1978.

The day starts off with a small parade that starts at DC Day Park and comes down Frontage Rd then ends at the Little A'Le'Inn. It starts at 10 am if you want to catch it. You can also join the parade, decorate your car, come up with something fun and catchy and of course alien related.

**There will also be a few of us who will be camping at Pahranagat Wildlife Refuge starting Friday May 16th until Sunday May 18th with plans to head to Rachel for the Day on Saturday,  if interested let me know and I will give you more information on the camping.

OK everyone, there has been some talk about the town of Rachel being shutdown, so I called the Little A'Le'Inn yesterday afternoon to inquire about Rachel Day on Saturday. I talked to Bill (Pat's husband, Pat is the owner of the Little A'Le'Inn) and unfortunately it appears that nobody knows what's going on for Rachel Day as far as the traditional parade or any other activities. But, if you've never been to Rachel and the Little A'Le'Inn it is still an interesting place to visit plus they have great food. If you go, don't forget to stop at the Black Mailbox which is actually white and sign your name and to the front gate of Area 51 on Groom Lake Rd. but don't cross the line, you will be arrested for sure.

I haven't heard any news of Rachel shutting down. What does that mean?

I'm not sure, I did hear that someone was buying all the property there on the news about 6 months ago but there are still people living there and the Little A'Le'Inn is still going strong. There use to be a trailer park and a gas station that shut down several years ago.

There are still 6 of us who are camping at Pahranagat Wildlife Refuge just before you get to Alamo if you want to join us. We plan on doing some hiking and fishing plus watch the skies. To the east of the lake is a mountain range where Tikaboo peak is located and beyond the mountains is where Area 51 is located. I have been there twice and each time we have seen some unusual lights in the sky.

I'm really bummed that we have to cancel. We just learned there is going to be a big grand (re) opening event going on at the Atomic Testing Museum for the Area 51 exhibit on this same day. I'm not sure if they knew about Rachel Day and thought about the conflict or not. http://www.openminds.tv/area-51-museum-exhibit-reopening/27423

This sounds awesome! We have been wanting to see Rachel. This will be our first event with this group. Since we've retired we are busier than we've ever been, but I'm making time for this one.
