Fountainhead Intermediate-ish Ride

  • to
  • Fountainhead Regional Park

10875 Hampton Rd, Fairfax Station, VA (map)

    38.727413 -77.320090

  • What: Lower Intermediate to Intermediate Ride at FH!

Pace: Approx. 7-8mph, good for regular riders, not so much for beginners. This is a no-drop ride, you may feel that you are going to get dropped but we will regroup at intersections and make stops as needed to enjoy the park. I tend to go fast on downhills, but no worries, I slow down on hills haha.

Terrain: Ranges from easy to difficult. Some of the trails are fairly smooth, and there are a few steep climbs, and some technical sections, and 1 stream crossing, just be advised that the terrain can be difficult in places. This trail will make you work, if you haven't ridden in a while, you may find it too demanding. Advanced beginners are welcomed.

Distance/Time: Approx. 10 or so miles
Duration: Since this ride will be more in the casual side of intermediate, put aside at least 3-4 hours to complete this group ride, we don't want to rush. Time depends on group dynamics, trail conditions, wait-ups, mechanicals and/or number of breaks (we will take at least one 10–15 min. break if needed). Bring: Helmet (required), water, spare tube/patch kit, multi-tool, I.D., emergency contact info where it can be easily located on your person, a MTB is also a good idea ;)

Weather: Shine Only, the trails will be closed if wet at FH. Check the trail conditions before heading out, call (703)[masked] or at: https://www.facebook.com/pages/Fountainhead-Regional-Park/207150099413259. Directions: 10875 Hampton Rd, Fairfax Station, VA 22039 Where: We will meet in the parking lot directly in front of the trail entrance, by the mini golf course.

Please try to be on time! Wheels on trail by 9:15!

From the FH FB Page "Saturday, April 26th, the mountainbike trail is closed due to wet trail conditions. Thank you for your cooperation." I will ride Fairland aroud 11, I just have to check the trail conditions, I'll post back here or check our facebook group. https://www.facebook.com/groups/MVDMountainBikers/

Here's the deal guys, I'm sure FH will be closed, so this ride is off. I will go to Fairland to check on trails. If everything looks rideable, I will be at the parking lot on the Greencastle side at 11am waiting on anyone who joins. I'll update you guys tomorrow by 9ish. If by some miracle FH opens in the AM, I'm going lol, but highly unlikely. Keep my number from the description just in case.

I'll wait until the AM to confirm, we'll see!

The rain in Springfield stopped around 6.30p, but still very humid since then. Now everything depends on how well the trails drain. Crossing finger, but I know FH are very strict with the trails conditions.

Hey guys! There are some rain showers and thunderstorms coming our way. FH tends to close when trails are wet, there is a chance that may happen, in any case, plan B would be to ride Fairland. Same time, parking by the Greencastle side. They usually announce closing/open before 8 am, so stayed tuned and fingers crossed they won't close!

Not looking good, it is pouring in my area :(. Not even sure if Fairland would be ok by tomorrow. I can go and check conditions at Fairland early, and we can ride later if trails are OK.

That rain in the forecast better not mess with our planned ride! Lol

We'll be checking out the new addition to the black loop. That section is for more advanced riders, it includes drops and new jump lines, but no pressure to attempt to do the more techy stuff.

We (Los Saltamontes) may end up doing FH on Saturday as well. We don't normally stop other than at the picnic tables so we can be out before noon but will let you know if we end up going and joining you at least for part of the ride.
