8th Annual "Key" to Your Heart Ride

  • This location is shown only to members

We'll start at the edge of Anna Maria Island so we're closer to the waffles at the end of the ride! Meetup area is a public parking lot along the beach on Gulf Dr. South, just south of 5th St. South. Park and meet at the northern end of the lot. Please allow enough time to get a little lost on the way if you are not familiar with the area (we all have gotten lost at least once).

This is our regular Longboat Key ride, with a twist! The route will be about 25-30 miles total- down Longboat Key to St. Armand's Circle, Lido Beach, over the Sarasota bridge and back through Ken Thompson park. We've added a twist by riding over the Sarasota bridge for a little challenge and to see the "Unconditional Surrender" statue for Valentine's Day! This is a great ride with some very nice scenery along the beach!

After the ride, we'll go for some of the best waffles around, with ice cream and fresh berries! Not interested in having a waffle? Gulf Drive Cafe has many other selections, and it's on the beach! Due to limited parking at the restaurant, we'll ride our bikes to the restaurant where we can lean them along the deck railing.

Check http://www.gulfdrivetiki.com/cafehome.html If it's a nice day, some of us may hang out at the beach for a while after lunch. Bring a bathing suit and towel/chair if you're interested, and a way to secure your bike!

This is quite a long drive from our area, so please use the comments section to try to arrange carpooling. Please note which area you're in, if you're able to drive, and how many bicycles/people your vehicle can hold.

This will be a "no drop" ride, meaning that if we ride at different speeds we will stop at all major turns to regroup.

Helmets are required!

Please check your bike before the ride >>Air, Brakes, Cranks, Chains, and Cassette<< and bring extra tubes and air!

Bring water, bring a snack, and bring a friend!

We look forward to welcoming all old and new friends!

I wish I could but we are doing the Bike Florida History Tour 22-28. But thanks for the alternate date suggestion. Hopefully some date in the future will work!

The wind was brutal out of the north so rather than do Longboat Key to Sarasota, we did Bradenton Beach to the northern tip of Anna Marie Island, then back to the Kokonut Hut at the Gulf Drive Cafe for brunch after the ride before completing the circle back to the starting point. Ended up with just over 15.5 miles.

Won't work though as I've got a few things to do down that way after the ride.

Although I would love to ride this event I feel it is a long drive not to be able to carpool. I will be working on continuing to move/unpack into my new home. Hope to meet up soon.
