Speak Up! Speak Out! with the MacEwan Toastmaster Club

Interested in developing your communication and leadership skills? Consider MacEwan Toastmasters!

How Does It Work?

The Toastmaster meeting is a learn-by-doing workshop in which participants hone their speaking and leadership skills in a no-pressure setting.

There is no instructor in a Toastmasters meeting. Instead, members evaluate one another's presentations. This evaluation process is a key part of the program’s success.

Meeting participants also give impromptu speeches (Table Topics) on assigned topics, conduct meetings (Chairperson skills) and develop skills related to timekeeping, grammar and parliamentary procedure.

Members learn communication skills by working through a series of communication and leadership manuals.

Whether you consider yourself a "scared stiff" speaker or someone who is fairly confident speaking to a crowd, Toastmasters can help you further you communication, leadership and mentoring skills.

Dear Caryolynn or Troy, I am so sorry, but I will be unable to attend the meeting tomorrow. However, for next week, I would like to pay for my yearly membership and supplies and I would like to know if I can pay in cash. Thank you and I think I am really going to get a lot out of being a member of Grant MacEwan Toastmasters.
    Sincerely,
    Maureen Laviolette

Ok speakers, you may have to dig deep for our next meeting as we marry "alliteration" with "fall colors" for our theme on the 22nd. The examples are out there. Put on your poetry hat...dare you to pick up the challenge! Have fun!

    Silent silhouettes
    abundant against the autumn aura...
    bashful browns, gorgeous gold, rustic reds;
faintly falling, drifting down life feathers from above about to start their slumber 'til spring starts again

    Good Day Everyone
Yesterday's meeting was great fun as speakers took on the challenge of relating Thanksgiving to oxymoron's. What a great exercise for speakers trying to enhance their speeches with a little drama and humor.
Our meeting for October 22nd will take us to the next step in our "forms of speech" theme. We will be speaking to "Alliteration" and relating it to our beautiful Fall Colors."
As some are learning very quickly...a little preparation and research can go a long way.
Plan to join us Tuesday at noon and take on the challenge.
