It looks like Yonge & Dundas has scaled back its oldies.  Well, some is better than none, and they've got this one that teams up Paul Newman and Robert Redford, a reunion a few years after they did Butch Cassidy & The Sundance Kid.  This movie won 7 academy awards including Best Picture for 1973.

I'm glad I decided to go see this movie. It was well done, esp how it ended. Great ending! Thanks Phil for organizing this and for the explanation. Sorry I couldn't make it to Pickle Barrel. Until next time.

First time seeing The Sting, and yep, it definitely deserved its Oscar nod for Best Picture! Lots of great actors in the film, the plot was engaging, and it was very well paced. The costumes were great, although you could tell it was 70s done as the 30s in some parts (like when the car pulls up to the building towards the beginning - the background buildings looked too contemporary). Thanks everyone for coming out, and thanks to those who came to Pickle Barrel after. We managed to squeeze many in, although I had hoped they'd give us a more spacious seating area. Oh well, space downtown comes at a premium... :)

SPOILER for those who didn't see the movie: The ending where Lonnegan did the wrong bet confused me. After looking it up, apparently it was semantics that did him in. When he was told to 'Place it on Lucky Dan', that meant bet that he would come in second. The lingo is Win, Place or Show - 1st, 2nd, and 3rd in the race. He mistakenly thought he was supposed to bet Lucky Dan would win.

Thanks Phil for looking it up and sharing the meaning of "Place it on Lucky Dan"! Awesome!

I was completely "scammed" until the last part of the movie, literally. Brilliant and captivating! No doubt that they won so many awards. Thanks Phil for selecting a FANTASTIC movie. Boy...Redford and Newman were so handsome. :-)

We're not all sitting together in the theatre, which is small. I will wait outside the auditorium #16 when the film is over. Meet the group there.

    • Chris

both. Wonderstone movie starts at 7 and is only 1h 41m. Sting at 7:30 and is 2hours so will be plenty left for me to see of this movie I've watched more than 10 times. first one, then the other. that's why i will come in late. Karlee will not be going out after so I want to join yous. Don't worry, I will pay for both tickets.

      1 · March 15, 2013

    • Phil D

No don't worry, I'm not checking for tickets and who paid for what. Just don't be standing in front of me when the good part happens in The Sting! ;)

Hi guys the same thing has happened to me too as AMC has charged me for 2 tickets,so like if anybody has not purchased the ticket please let me know. Thanks

    March 15, 2013

    • Phil D

That's odd it happened to you and Adrian. Did you guys buy them throught the Cineplex website? I always do, and I only got charged once. If nobody buys the second off you, just talk to cineplex (talk to them anyway). It has to be a system glitch, so you should be on the hook for it.

      March 15, 2013

  • Adrian

Hi all, AMC just accidentally charged me for two tix for the sting tonight and there's a no refund policy. If anyone hasn't yet bought a ticket, I've got an extra one you can have for free. lmk.

    March 15, 2013

  • Chris

I have my ticket, but might be late.

    1 · March 15, 2013

  • Phil D

Just bought my ticket. Make sure you've already purchased your ticket when you meetup with the group on the 4th floor. Since we're a large bunch, I might send folks into the auditorium in groups. Also, you might want to buy your ticket in advance, I don't know if the theatre will have a lot of people from the general public.

I haven't seen this move in years. I especially love the music. (Scott Joplin arr. by Marvin Hamlisch) I might not get there by 7, but I will get there!

I've reserved a table at Pickle Barrel for after the film. Please let me know as soon as possible if you can't make it so I change the number of spots reserved if need be. We'll make our way there right after the movie, across the street from AMC. Thanks!
