Before Midnight - (starring: Ethan Hawke)

Hi All,

Let's see a movie that's not Offbeat Cinema but a 360 Reversal.

Before Midnight (2013) Poster

Before Midnight is the last of the Richard Linklater series (Before Sunrise, Before Sunset). It is a beautiful crafted story of how one man (Ethan Hawke) meets one girl (Julie Delpy) on the Eurotrain.

The Premise / Lead up to Before Midnight

(Please read the premise as it would allow you to understand Before Midnight more).

In Before Sunrise (released in 1995), Ethan Hawke randomly picks up Julie Delpy and convinces her to get off the Eurotrain and spend a day with her as they talk randomly about a multitude of topics including sex, love, religion as they wander around the city of Vienna, Italy. The whole movie focuses on these two individuals as he has to catch a plane back to United States in 8 hours. The last scene (and I'm not spoiling anything here) involves them parting ways at a train station saying that they will re-meet each other 9 years later. (They didn't exchange phone numbers or contact information at that time). Did they ever meet each other again??

Well that's the big question....

In Before Sunset (Released in 2004 - surprisingly 9 years after they first met on the Eurotrain), Ethan Hawke was doing a world book tour in which he stopped by Paris, France. Julie Delpy remembers that monumental night 9 years ago, and once again, they spend another whole day together wandering and talking (about a variety of topics) as they explore Paris, France together. Unfortunately, once again, Ethan Hawke (once again) has a plane to catch in 8 hours back to America... Does he catch that plane back to America or stay in Paris, France after 2 wonderful days with the 'Girl of his dreams'.

Well **spoilers** at the end, he decides to stay in Paris with the girl of his dreams and miss his flight back to America as this is where the story ends.

Now Before Midnight picks up 9 years after that wonderful night in Paris, France. (Surprisingly this movie is released 9 years after Before Sunset too - not a coincidence). It looks like Julie Delpy and Ethan Hawke are now married and I am curious to see what happens..

-------------------

Corny? Yes. Romantic? Absolutely! Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy have such chemistry together that it's actually infectious. You don't mind seeing these two on screen walking around beautiful cities (Vienna and Paris) for 2 hours!

This whole series is a wonderful take on budding love, flirty romance and relationships and I am curious to see what happens. It opens on June 7, 2013.

Trailer:

You really should try and rent Before Sunrise and Before Sunset before watching this film. I like them watching the budding romance between Ethan Hawke and Julie Delpy throughout this whole series.

One of the best conversations in Before Sunrise. Example of how much chemistry these 2 have...

A tremendous movie and really well organized ... Thanks, Brian !!
I feel that Arlene nailed it ... Many couples today, do not have anything like that level of thorough, authentic communication in their relationships.

Just an fyi, the organizers in Mad About Movies post the movie times in their description, in addition to the meetup time. We usually aim for more than a 1/2 hour before the movie starts so that large groups can sit together. As you get closer to the movie start time, the seats fill up. Also, it gives members a chance to settle in and get refreshments. I see that Brian posted 7:20pm as the movie time in his description, as well as the meeting place (under Location) and time. All of us organizers post that information in the description, if it's not clear, feel free to contact us before the start of the event.

I would have liked to have gone, but I haven't even seen the two movies before it and I think it would be really interesting to watch them both before seeing how far apart they were filmed from each other and from this one.

This was more of a documentary about marriage, relationships, work, kids and play. It gets to be a heavy dama and a good tale on what happens to a relationship after the honeymoon phase. Despite the rain in the evening, it was a good meetup

I had not seen the previous films and really felt the film was realistic in observing the escalation of arguments and the acting was supurb in my opinion. I would recommend it although it's realism may be difficult for some. I enjoyed the constant conversation which
is missing in so many relationships of all kinds these days. Enjoyed meeting the group as well.

I started the group because there wasn't any other type of group like this. I've met some great folks in the group who have become close friends and have also met some amazing business owners.
