From the TIFF in the Park web site: “Every Wednesday at sunset beginning in July, TIFF and the Toronto Entertainment District BIA present FREE outdoor screenings of romantic classics at David Pecaut Square, directly west of Roy Thomson Hall.”
This evening, the film being presented is “Moonstruck” (1987) by Toronto hometown director Norman Jewison, starring Cher and Nicolas Cage. The film was nominated for six Academy Awards, and took home three: Cher for Best Actress; Olympia Dukakis for Best Supporting Actress; and John Patrick Shanley for Original Screenplay.
More about the movie at IMDB and Wikipedia, and at the Bell TIFF Lightbox site.
What to bring
Bring your own lawn chair, cushion or blanket to sit on with the group in the prime centre grass area. In addition, there are plastic fold-out chairs arranged on the hard surface at the back of the square; the sight-line is worse, and you would not be able to sit with the group, but this is an option should you wish. Please do not move any fold-up chairs set up at the back to our spot on the grassy area. This damages the grass and does not reflect well on our group.
Dress appropriately for the weather, keeping in mind that evening temperatures can be cooler. You could also bring snacks for yourself and/or fellow attendees; your jaded and exhausted MAMAM organizers are known to appreciate such things too.
How, where and when to meet
You will find me at our meeting spot at the north side of the square, mid-block and on the south side of King Street West, across the street from the Royal Alexandra Theatre, starting at 8:15 PM and will be there until 8:45 PM (Update July 6: changed start time from 8 PM, and end time from 9 PM), the latest time you should plan to arrive. The show time is 9:15 PM. Here is the location on Google Maps. The spot is between a lemonade stand and the TIFF booth. I will wear my light-coloured Tilley hat and a name badge with a Meetup logo on a lanyard.
Please plan to be on time! The earlier any of you can arrive, the better; it will help in “reserving” a good spot on the grassy area for all participants still to arrive, and you will have time to grab a bite and/or use the nearest washroom facilities (in Metro Hall). After you arrive, I will send you from the meeting spot to our seating area on the grass.
If you discover that because of unavoidable circumstances you cannot arrive on time, please let me know beforehand and as soon as possible. I will send all registered participants my mobile phone number a day before the event for such last minute emergency coordination: you can text me and I can let you know where the group is seated. I will keep my phone on until the start of the movie at 9:15 PM.
Cancellation in the event of inclement weather
If the Environment Canada forecast the afternoon before the event calls for the possibility of thunderstorms in the evening, consider the group event automatically cancelled. You still would be free to attend on your own, but our group cannot accept the liability. Click here for the Environment Canada forecast page for Toronto.
Important MAMAM Fine Print
When you RSVP 'YES' to a Meetup event, it means that your Organizer will be expecting you there. To avoid being mark as a 'NO SHOW', please be courteous and change your RSVP to 'no' as early as possible before the RSVP cutoff date & time.
Cellphones must be turned off or kept in silent mode (no sound and no vibration) and MUST NOT be glanced at or used under any circumstances once previews have started, if you must use the phone please leave the seating area to do so. Use of your cell phone once previews have started could result in your removal from the group.
