Phil D is the organizer for this meetup.  If you need to contact him, please post a message on the wall, or go into his profile and email him through there.

Per MAMM policy, cellphone use by members during a movie is prohibited.  We request that you put away your phones once the previews start. If you need to check your phone for any reason, please exit the auditorium.

For (new) members: Please take the time to rate the event (not the movie) afterwards. Written feedback on the wall is also welcome if you want to talk about the movie or other things. Thanks!

-------------------------------------------------------------

I was hoping to see a different movie at Empress Walk for this week, but they have weird start times for those ones, some after 8pm.  So I thought I'd give The Lone Ranger a shot.

***It's opening week, so you should buy your ticket in advance via cineplex.com to avoid the disappointment of a sellout at the meetup time.

By the way, if you have a Scene card, if you watch a movie at Empress Walk between June 14 and July 14, you earn 3x the Scene Pts. I'm not sure if that includes multiple viewings, or just one.

The Lone Ranger (w/ Johnny Depp & Armie Hammer)

Movie synopsis:

Native American warrior Tonto recounts the untold tales that transformed John Reid, a man of the law, into a legend of justice, as the two unlikely heroes must learn to work together and fight against greed and corruption.

Trailer:

------------------------------------------------------------

Movie

Meetup Location: I don't know if the Empress Walk theatre was renovated after the takeover, so I'll meet near the Box Office.  I'll have my blue shoulder bag.

Movie meetup time: 6:45pm. Will wait 10min.

The movie starts @ 7:30pm

 Movie Running Time: 2h31m

Cost of movie: $7.99 (If you have a Scene Card, you can get a 10% discount on Tuesday ticket prices.  Visit www.scene.ca for details).

After the movie: The movie finishes late, so I won't do anything after.  If you want to meet me before the movie, post on the wall or email me and I'll arrange a time.  I'll probably just grab a bite to eat at the Wendy's anyway.

I look forward to seeing you there!!

-------------------------------------------------------------------

***Please keep an eye out for updates or changes to the time and venue up to the day of the event.  If you are unable to attend, change your RSVP ASAP.

I will start closing out RSVPs the night before the event, but you can still show up and I can add you to the attended list. Cancellations after the event RSVP closing time may be treated as 'No Show', unless you turn up for the film.

In order to be marked as attended you will need to show up at the meetup time as indicated, or connect with the group right outside of the screening theatre room at the end of the movie.

When you RSVP 'Yes' you are agreeing to the MAMM policy and the Liability Waiver posted in this link:

One more thing that bothered me, what was up with those rabbits? Since when are they carnivorous? I know it was played for laughs, but come on!

[SPOILERS]Well, that was the thing. Nature was out of whack because Butch was a Wendigo. I liked that explanation for the silver bullet but then they made us think that it was all just Tonto's guilty imagination. And then they tried to suggest again that LR really was a spirit walker and he was magic. so now he can do anything! Except he didn't kill either of the guys with the silver bullet. (and probably not a good idea to give a nine year old a gift of a bullet)

Nice to see everybody. Too bad the movie ends so late that we couldn't hang out more.
I basically liked the movie but felt like it wanted to be a lot of different things. I thought it was fairly good at first and the villain seemed really evil but then he got more family friendly and clownish by the end which kind of paralleled the movie. The people behind me were kind of unpleasant too.

I'm glad everyone enjoyed it. For me it was just okay. At least the time went by quickly. :) I was able to take quick power naps through the slow parts. Overall, I just found it a bit unnerving that the movie seemed to be geared towards families and kids with the humour and the dialogue, and yet it had some of the most brutal (yet bloodless) death scenes I'd seen in a movie in a long time. I guess I would have preferred that they just make it gory and turn it into a 14A or 18A movie, rather than sell it as a family film. Johnny Depp's portrayal might also seem borderline offensive, but I guess we'll see if there are protests and calls to boycott the film on that note.

Overall, I enjoyed the movie. I agree with Brian that it could have been trimmed down a wee bit. And it was good to see familiar faces and some new ones. Thanks Phil for organizing this. Now where's my 3x scene points! ;)
