M.A.M. 5th Year Year Birthday Meetup! The Counselor Meetup #2

The Counselor stars some of Hollywood's best actors (Michael Fassbender, Penélope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, Javier Bardem, Brad Pitt, Bruno Ganz, Rosie Perez) and promises to be one worth watching.

Friday November 1st is Mad About Movies' 5 anniversary and while I wish I could plan something more elaborate to mark the event I can only manage  a regular movie meetup for now. I actually took over the group on February 19, 2009 so we will celebrate THAT 5th anniversary with a bit more flare.

Meetup Time: 6:30 - check back as this might change

Meetup Location: 2nd floor of Yonge/Eglinton centre at theatre entrance by Indigo Books. Purchase your ticket then meet is. If you miss us meet us back here after the movie.

After Movie: Let's head over to Spring Rolls at 45 Eglinton Ave E (1 block East of Yonge)

>>>Movie Details<<<

Synopsis: A lawyer seems to have it all, with fast cars, a gorgeous house, a beautiful fiancé and a lifestyle most people would envy. His hubris leads him to enter into what he assumes will be a one-time drug deal, but he's not going to get off that easy. Now the counselor doesn't know who to trust, and his mistake will lead to betrayal, murder and disaster.

I liked this movie but must say the structure was odd as well as the dialogue but overall it was thought provoking and garnered a lot of lively conversation afterwards. *One thought I had was; if the guy on the motorcycle was going 260 (?) miles an hour, how in the world did the cop catch up to him to give him a ticket! :)

*This observation does not give away anything in the movie so if you have not seen it don't worry this is not a spoiler.

Worth seeing for being so atypical Hollywood - main man crying with raw emotion that isn't prettified; the ending. The director really brought out the best abilities of all the characters - Cameron Diaz did scary sneering well, and the minor characters all had a believably sinister edge that created the film's tension. However, there seemed to be too many untold stories in the plot. Thanks to Yvette for organizing (and for the Halloween treats!)

Happy birthday MAMAM! Happy to see everyone as always. Though the movie was dark, I managed to enjoy it and the company too.

The movie had some interesting, philosophical thoughts amid some brutal scenes. Nice chat afterwood. Thanks for organizing, Yvette, and congratulations on 5th anniversary.

Good seeing everyone!!! Here is some information about Cormac McCarthy who wrote the screenplay for The Counselor and why it sounded more literary than a movie is usually supposed to be:
