I'm not the biggest social butterfly, but I've always felt networking to be beneficial. Sometimes it results in passing on work opportunities, and sometimes it just becomes and extra person to reach out to when in need of some help. I'm also hoping to find some Rails developers with some free time who would like to consider joining the company I work for as they've just started hiring again.
I've worked for various startups and small companies over the last 4-5 years using Rails. I've worked from the most informal positions to the most disciplined scrum-style positions. Pretty much every company used a different server/host for their apps, so I've gained a wide range of experience for the techs connected to Rails. On my dev machine, I prefer Apache+Passenger running mysql for my Rails apps, and on the front end using jQuery and all the most fun and modern css tricks.
I've been working for cocodot.com for about two years, and am about to take over the lead developer role in the next month. We're looking for probably 3 new Rails developers right now so I'm hoping to meet some people to join me in the job I love! I very happily work from home, giving me the comfort and flexibility I desire. This is my favorite job that I've ever had, so I'm hoping to share the opportunity with some other skilled peers.
I'm a web developer for cocodot.com, an LA based company. I've lived in Madison now for a few years but never attended this meetup! A new acquaintance pointed me to it last week so I thought I'd give it a shot.
