Re: [Madtown-Board-Games] Group Progress

I'm willing to go to meetups and I'd like people to join me!

1. The Union Terrace (Rathskellar and the indoor open area with the wall to wall windows overlooking the lake have plenty of space to accommodate groups). You can also reserve huge private rooms at the Union.
We just moved into a new apartment a few months ago and we're still in the process of getting the place organized. No living room furniture, for example heh. Once we get that all sorted out, we'd be more than
happy to host a couple game nights. We live 10 minutes away from downtown on Johnson St.

2. After lunch is fine by me. If anyone is hungry, food is cheap at the Union. You can get a large pizza with everything on it for only $10. Enough to share with a lot of people.

3. Personally, I am enamored with Carcassonne. I could play that all day heh. I'd most likely bring that to meetups. I'm down to play just about anything though. We also have Deluxe Scrabble and Jenga.

Showing up in person is the way to go with any store. They get overwhelmed with spam and nonsense email. The store's phone number is on the webs and google.

Thanks for the info - can you get me a direct email address to him please?
Maybe the web contact thing doesn't / didn't work for some reason.

It sounds like a good place to re-start.

Thanks

Misty Mountain Games tried to do a regular meetup for board games, but
few people ever showed up. They're pretty busy on the weekends (CCGers
take over most of the space on those days) but during the week it's
nearly empty. The support from Last Square would be underwhelming, and
they lack the space to host more than one thing at a time. The
miniatures gamers will always displace you if you tried. Pegasus also
suffers from being too small, and having already tried and failed to get
a board games meetup off the ground.

I'd be all over a meetup at Misty Mountain on account of it being within
walking distance of my house. Have you talked to Ben at Misty? He's a
board gamer himself, so I'm surprised at any lack of interest.

Hey gang,

Well I have to say response to my request of local game stores has
been underwhelming to say the least. It seems no one has time to
respond to me about working out a partnership or they do not see any
value in it.

So, we have to do something to start moving this ship forward. The
Milwaukee meetup is a success, and it is a huge success, due to the
fact that while I provide the space and support, the members at one
point took matters into their own hands and ran with my idea. Meetup
range between 25 and 45 members because people WANT to come, more than
other things in their lives. The problem is that this group doesn't
have a known commodity for people to gauge interest on. So it is the
chicken-egg thing; until we have something going on it is hard to get
people interested, and since no one is interested it is hard to get
something going on. We need a few people to commit to doing what it
take to have some consecutive meetups to build some momentum.

We need some local people to step up and help row this boat. I am here
to support the group and make sure it doesn't fold, but you local
people have to decide if you want a board game group and what that means.

And I am not asking for a lot so don't let that scare any of you off.

What we need right now is for someone to publically state that they
will 100% show up at a meetup at a certain location to play games and
they would like some others to join them. When that is done I will
schedule a meetup to fit that criteria.

I need the answers to the following items to schedule our first meetup:

1. Location: All the local game stores have space for us to use; we
don't need an agreement to go there. I've held meetups at Barnes and
Noble and larger StarBucks already (for smaller groups), and people do
actually invite a few people to their homes to play games as well. Any
and all of these ideas will work for our first meetup. I can't choose
for you guys all the way from Milwaukee; I just do not know the area.

2. Time: It appears from talking with group members that Saturday is
the best day. I suggest 2pm start time so people can eat lunch before
showing up. If this more important if we are playing at a place that
serves food so we don't clog their lunch rush (likewise it helps if
people are ordering coffee or something when we play).

3. Games: Less important is games you can bring to the meetup. Lots of
people will play anything but it can help to know what will be
available to be played.

So among the people who have signed up for this group, who actually
wants to play some games? Where do you want to play them and when do
you want to play them?
