Ironman New Zealand

Posting as a joke as I know I'll be the only one in attendance but I'll use this event to post the MyAthlete tracker information if that works out so you any of you who want to can watch the race live... of course if anyone else in the group IS going, please let me know:):)

One of the world’s biggest fresh water lakes offers arguably the best swim on the circuit. A two-loop bike course comes back through town before heading through the forests and a three-loop run course leaves you no chance to escape the thousands of spectators. Kellogg’s Nutri-Grain IRONMAN New Zealand allows you to realize your IRONMAN potential in one of the world’s most beautiful places.

Hey everyone thanks so much for the well wishes and the support - it was an AMAZING experience. I am so glad that I got the opportunity to be here. Training indoors made this race very difficult to ride and run in the sun/wind. I had to run/walk most of the marathon and I still PRed... who knew!

I'm heading to the south island to hike in the mountains this next week (Eric, I might do a glacier walk). See you all real soon - and can't wait to start training with you again (I've signed up for Louisville in August:)

Congratulations Brian! You are an Ironman. We were following it here, saw you cross the finish line via the live feed. I have some screengrabs of progress on the course if you want them.

It's the top one for the web cam.

There is a web cam with a time lapse... it's not live. You can see the swim... from left to right in the lake and at the end, riders going by!

To make this clear... Personally I'm enjoying WI winter in Madison. Earlier post was email from Brian which I had to shorten in order for it to fit here. So here is another part of it:
    Hello From New Zealand!

I am having a great time here doing final race preparations and little bits of sight-seeing. The people are wonderful, the weather is perfect, and the course is stunning. Race forecast for tomorrow is high of 68, sunny, and winds 5-7mph... so I'm rejoicing in that.

I left my house at 530am last Friday to go to the airport and arrived here in Taupo on Sunday at 430pm. Since then, I've been resting up and getting used to everything being backwards... I have to pass everyone on the RIGHT and grab water in the water stations with my LEFT hand... it's harder than you think.

    Hello From New Zealand!

I rented a tracking device from My Athlete Tracker so anyone who wants to can see my progress. That plus the Ironman site should give you all you need to see how my race goes. The link is at: http://www.myathletelive.com/events/ Click on the event and then click on my name. You can track me on the app on Iphone, ipad and droid. They do the same. NOTE: The event won't be posted until Thursday night - I'm the only athlete using their service here so they have program the event into their site (Not many folks as crazy as me maybe?).

The race will start at 7am Saturday morning here... that's going to be NOON on Friday Central Time. Keep in mind that I won't be wearing the tracking unit on the swim so I won't start "moving" on your screens until 1:15pm or so. With gratitude to you all for your piece in my journey. I'll be thinking of you during the race!

Thanks Laura! I am equally excited to hike the south island after the race - lots of Lord of the Ring tours, etc.

You are living the dream Brian... living the dream! Good luck mate! I trust you'll have a great day... (it sure would suck to go all that way and have it pissing down with rain the whole day!) I'll look forward to hearing all about it over a beer upon your return.
