Many of us will be looking to play indoors after Labor Day. Our MAVN group has put together a list of popular indoor options where many of us will be playing through the indoor season. On our Meetup website, visit More menu option Files to view or download the file: VB Venues 2013-14.pdf.
The options we list are all "coed open" groups (2+ hrs of pick-up play, not leagues), but some of these places have indoor league options too. See their websites for more info.
Note that some of these groups are particular about their level of play, and may ask you to transfer to a lower-level group if the group coordinator/supervisor feels your skills are incompatible with the group. In the Madison area, most groups classify themselves as recreational (or "beginner"), intermediate, or power. If you are unsure how to classify your own skills, please visit or download our "Standards for Intermediate-Level Play" (also in the Files section, via the More menu on our website). The Fitchburg Tues group in particular requires strong intermediate (or higher) skills, and some of the MSCR power-level groups are very particular about "clean hands."
Shameless Plug: If you don't mind a short drive (18-20 mins) to the SW of Madison, Mt Horeb has a friendly and inexpensive Wed-night intermediate group that costs only $40 for non-residents for each 15-week session -- one session before the holidays, and another after. I plug them here because I've been playing with this group for years, and it's always been a fun, friendly group, but in recent years our demographics have hiccupped and our numbers have dwindled, so we're hoping to revive it this fall.
As always, if you have any questions, or if you know of other good indoor places to play that we might add to our list, please let me know: mthorebian [at] gmail [dot] com.
