Brush Clearing and Clean up at the Token Creek Conservancy

  • Apr 19, 2014 · 9:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

The Women's Outdoor Network has adopted the Token Creek Conservancy as our service project. Our sponsor, Judith Hutchinson, is the president of the Token Creek Conservancy and has been doing work at the conservancy for years to make it more accessible and enjoyable for visitors. We'll already painted tables and other projects to help make the place even more beautiful.

Join us as we clear brush and make the park better. More details will follow about what to bring and wear.

We will meet on the north end of the property in the parking area on Mill Road (off of Egre Road- #1 on the map). More details will follow. We may have lunch afterward. http://danedocs.countyofdane.com/webdocs/pdf/lwrd/parks/TC_NR_2011_Pref_Alt_MPred.pdf

How to get there: I couldn't get google to pull up a map of the park so just get to Token Creek. When you get to the intersection of 19 and Portage Road, head north to Egre and turn right. The entrance to the park is about 4000 feet on the right on Egre.

Thank you so much for this great morning. It's so satisfying to see the results of our work. I'm sure the anglers will appreciate it. I got some bluestem from my yard and will go back to plant it.

I am sorry to have to cancel today. But I don't feel confident in finding you all. Also, I would like to drive up to my parents for Easter during the day and not after dark. I will watch for other events that I can attend. Thanks, Jackie

I need a little help getting to the meeting spot. I do not know the area. I will be coming south on 39 from westfield. The map wasn't very clear when I printed it out. Also, What should I bring. I am a carpenter and have many tools if any would be helpful. Thanks and looking forward to meeting you all.

Hello Fellow Workers: I talked with Judith today and saw the projects. We will be working on two areas: 1) clearing some brush and picking up garbage at one area to make it more accessible to anglers. This is a high visibility area that will really make a difference. 2) clearing honey suckle from a slope and treating the stumps with chemical. Feel free to bring your own loppers, gloves and handsaws. Most of the brush is small, but there are few "larger" stems. If you have a weed whacker, we could clear one area pretty quickly. Judith will bring gloves and 8 loppers plus a bunch of hand clippers. She will also have chemical and drinking water. See you shortly.

Hi all: Hopefully it will done raining by Saturday. Yes, we will have tools for you. You should bring gloves and water. If you have your own loppers, just bring them along. Judith said that she's hoping to work first at the trout ponds on Old Portage Road. The embankment needs to be cleared for: fishing and sightseeing the stream. This is the car bridge area by the trout ponds on Old Portage Road. Then, we need to clear the brush from the walk to the new walking bridge that crosses Token Creek, ( by the cemetery) and/or trim the entry area to Token Creek Conservancy, around the rocks and sign (off of Egre Road). We will meet in the parking lot off of Egre Road. Here's a self-guided nature guide: http://www.tokencreek.org/pdf/Culvertrailguide.pdf

I had no idea this was Easter Weekend. That doesn't matter to me, but it could matter to others.
