Spring Hike – New Glarus Woods State Park

This annual hike is done in conjunction with the Four Lakes Group Sierra Club and is led by David C. Smith. It is likewise posted on the Madison Area Outdoor meetup group.

Join us for a 4 – 5 mile spring hike through prairies and forests at New Glarus Woods State Park. The hike is moderate with rolling hills and ravines and a great opportunity to see spring ephemerals just starting to bloom and trees just budding out.

Carpooling from Madison meets at 9 AM at the western Hill Farms State Office parking lot, 4802 Sheboygan Ave. Otherwise, meet at the parking lot off State Hwy 69, 2 miles south of New Glarus at 10 AM. There is a $5 fee for parking at the New Glarus location. Also, a State Park sticker is required for cars at New Glarus Woods. Lunch option at a local Swiss restaurant afterward if interested.

Thank you, everyone, for coming out yesterday. I'm so glad the weather cooperated for us. Also, a big thanks to David for being a wonderful hike leader and to Kathy for being our sweep. They did a great job keeping us all together.

Anybody know the current conditions of this park's trails? Spring hiking is always iffy, with remaining snow cover in shady areas and mud. Also looks like 40-50% chance of rain.

    Jean&David,
It looks like rainy forecast for Saturday :( Don't want to say I'm coming and then bail at the last minute because it's cold and wet outside. Maybe I'll take the time to go buy some newer rain gear and water-proof my shoes !
