Cafe Porta Alba followed by "On the Waterfront" (1954)

Yes, this is a 60 year-old movie, but it's a GOOD old movie! If you'd like to watch one of the greatest achievements in cinematic history, please join us for "On the Waterfront."

On the Waterfront was nominated for 12 Academy Awards in 1954 and won 8 of them including: Best Picture, Best Actor (Marlon Brando), Best Director (Elia Kazan), and Best Supporting Actress (Eva Marie Saint). The low-budget, black and white On the Waterfront was filmed entirely on location in Hoboken and told the gritty story of New York dock workers, brutality, corruption, and embroilment with a gangster union boss. It provided an expose of union racketeering while showcasing the murder of an innocent longshoreman.

IF you'd like to meet for dinner beforehand, we will be at Cafe' Porta Alba at 5:30 PM. If you prefer to skip dinner and just go to the movie, we will be near the Sundance ticket counter by 7 PM for a 7:15 show. If you need to reach me, please call (608) 332-8254.

Hope to see you there!

Excellent film! Great dinner conversation about old movies, old actors, old TV shows, and living in different parts of the world. A very fun night!

I'm sorry--time has got away from and I'm still working. I guess I will pass for the night.

Wonderful, Doris! Have a happy birthday and a great visit with your daughter who is traveling a long way to spend precious time with you. Cheers to both of you, and we hope to see you at a future event.

Hi, everyone! I checked this morning (Monday) and there is still tons of seating for the 7:15 showing of "On the Waterfront" at Sundance. However, if you'd like to buy your ticket ahead of time, David and I have seats J8 and J9 if you'd like to sit with us. We will still meet everyone at the Sundance ticket counter at 7 PM for this show on Wednesday, February 26. See you there!

We will most likely be hosting at least a couple more classic movie meetups over the coming months. We'll try to catch you at one in the near future. Thank you, Lynda and Nellie, for your positive feedback.

Would love to go to this but can't make Wednesday nights this semester. Hope we have more events like this one. It sounds like fun!
