Cruise the Mighty Mississippi River (This will be rescheduled for Sept or Oct)

  • Sep 11, 2011 · 2:00 PM

The Mighty Mississippi River is a fascinating river and it is very rich in history, A lot of movies, songs and fokelore have been written or made about it. It also has the longest wildlife refuge that is on a river, it is 261 miles with deer, eagles, owls and many more animals along with beautiful bluffs.  Mississippi Explorer cruises will take us on a 2 hour eco tourof the river and backwaters starting at La Crosse. They have large poontoon boats that hold a lot of people that are Coast Guard certified.

We will car pool to La Crosse and meet there by 1:30 or earlier. The boat departs at 2:00 and they want us to get there at least 1/2 hour early. Each person will have to buy their own ticket in advance, the price is about $25.00. We will be on boat 7, (make sure to ask for that one) as of 9/1 there are about 30 seats left. You can call their office to purchase tickets and for any details, the number is[masked]-4444. They prefer checks and cash but will accept some credit cards.  (its best to purchase your tickets as early as possible so we can all be on the same boat.)

There is more about the cruise in the link

Af ter, th e boat ride we can head up to Granddad's Bluffwhich is also in La Crosse. It is a 590 ft. bluff surrounded by trees that over looks the city with a scenic panoramic view.  It has a chalet style pub /restaurant on the top of it called the Alpine Inn, it serves sandwiches, burgers and pizzas at a reasonable price.

On the way home we can take the  Great River Road along the Mississippi River. It is known as one of the top 10 scenic drives in the U.S. It leads us into Wyalusing State Park where the confluence of the Wisconsin River and the Mississippi River meet. We can go there and watch the sunset or roam around or you can just go straight home if you prefer.

If you would like to go on the cruise please contact Mississippi Explorer Cruises to get your ticket early as possible or we may not all be able to get on the same boat or they may sell out.

We will post car pool arrangements here, please indicate if you would like to drive and where you would like everyone to meet or if you want to ride with someone and split the cost of gas.

A map with directions to the boat launch will be coming soon or you can ask them for directions ( I don't know if they give refunds)
