Evening of Discovery and Wonder with Cocktails

Nearly two years ago, a fabulous new facility of scientific discovery, beauty, and wonder opened in the heart of the UW campus. It is here that the secrets behind the potential healing power of stem cells are becoming known. It is here that new medical devices are being developed to deliver this healing power to damaged tissues and organs. It is here that popular outreach activities teaching people of all ages about science, making it more fun and accessible to everyone occur. What is this marvelous place? Why, it's the Wisconsin Institutes for Discovery! On Friday evening, November 16 at 5:30 PM, I will lead a special VIP, all-access tour for the Energizers. If you've ever wondered what's inside the "Discovery Building," I'd be happy to show you. After the tour, we can meet for cocktails and appetizers at Steenbock's on Orchard, one of Madison's finest new restaurants. It is located in the Discovery building, and its Chef Michael Pruett has been named one of Madison's best new chefs.

Here are a few more details:

Where to park: The best options are Lot 20 and Lot 17. After 4:30, they are open to the public, but there is now a small fee for parking. It will probably be in the neighborhood of $3 to $4.

Where to meet for the tour: At the Visitor's Information Desk on the main floor near the main entrance on Orchard Street.

Time tour departs: We should start gathering at 5:15, and I will wait until 5:30 to lead people around the building.

Duration of tour: About 60 minutes.

Cocktail hour: We can meet at Steenbock's at 6:30 PM for cocktails. Hope to see you there!

I saw some parts of WID/MIR I hadn't seen before. And dinner and conversation at Steenbock's was good.

Lot 20 has plenty of spaces just parked

FYI - there is no parking available under Union South tonight. Your best best would be to try Lot 20 first, and if that is not possible, you might have to pay the extra fee in Lot 17 - on the north side of Camp Randall, and accessible only via southbound Randall Ave.

Of course, your best bet it is walk, bike, or take the bus. There are a ton of buses that go down University Ave and stop at the WID, and the walk is very pleasant from more reasonable parking options. (I am going to guess that you could find street parking easily on the other side of Regent St, and that is only a 10-minute walk away.)

Just plan a little extra time if you are not familiar with the area, as the parking may take some time to work out.

Sure, Brian, you may invite the photography meetup group to this. If you have an idea of how many might show up and would like to have coctails/food with us at Steenbock's afterwards, then I can let Steenbock's know.

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
