I think of this as an Event. An opportunity to watch some characters misbehaving in an incredibly stylish way, followed by an opportunity to be incredibly geeky in a stylish way while acting in a suitable, subtly-misbehaving manner.
If you haven't seen the trailers for Great Gatsby yet, I really can't describe the wicked splendor displayed therein; the music alone caused me to watch the trailer several times in a row (okay, many times in a row). Also, the book is considered a classic for a reason: the story is absolutely solid.

I've posted for us to arrive around 6:15 - the movie doesn't start until 6:50, but I think it will be busy, and if we get there in advance we can buy a block of tickets to sit together. *Be aware that at Sundance, you have to choose your seat when you buy your ticket.*
Sundance is a little pricier than other theaters but has many amenities that they don't, including an espresso bar, beer/wine, and a wide range of food available - all of which can be taken into the theater. There are even little pop-up trays to eat your dinner on. And Rich says it is the best popcorn he's ever eaten.
Tempest Oyster Bar has a bit of the Art Nouveau atmosphere present in the film. The prices are high for dinner, but there is a late night menu with sandwiches for we-of-little-income, if you'd like to eat after the meal; otherwise, if you're going to drink a cocktail, this is the time and Tempest is the place.
The menus, etc. can be found here: http://www.tempestoyster.com/Menulate.html
I imagine that we'll be arriving at Tempest around 10pm, given the length of the movie, traffic and parking, etc. I'm sure some people might want to leave their cars at Sundance and carpool.
One more note: If you've been waiting for a chance to try out the swanky look you secretly love, I've just given you the opening. Go ahead: wear the tuxedo jacket or the beaded dress. Or jeans and a t-shirt. Whatever makes you happy.
