Star Trek: Into Darkness (!!!!!)

Do I need to write anything here?  If you don't already want to come, I don't know what to say to convince you...

...however there are three practical things:

***THE ACTUAL TIME OF THE MOVIE IS 9:10PM.  Because this is opening weekend, I suggest that we meet near the snack bar around 8:45pm so we are able to get good seats.******

2.  I know that some members have been frusterated by the locations of our meetups.  The problem with movie theaters, for example, is that the only centrally located one (Sundance) regularly sells out of tickets.  Eastgate is a long haul for West-siders, ditto Point for east-ders.  So I chose Fitchburg because it is actually about the same distance for both sides of town and is a very nice theater, to boot.

*I encourage members to consider carpooling, if they feel comfortable doing so.  Certainly any of our organizers who are attending would be happy to pick you up if you are (roughly) on the way; I have also often seen members posting that they would be happy to share a car.  If you have any concerns about this issue, please feel free to email me.*

3.  I will be posting an earlier time next week, as well, for those who cannot attend on a weekend night or who (like me) tend to go to bed before the movie will be halfway over.  Probably for Wednesday.

Well, I'm a little in love with Benedict Cumberbatch, so this was dreamy for me. Plus there were geeks there. All in all, a stellar night.

A fairly average ST film, I thought. That's not to say I didn't enjoy it. But they didn't really extend themselves too much. There were a lot of cliche moments and I did not feel the depth of the main characters. Part of this is my fault, having grown up on the original ST series. I expect a lot of melodrama from Kirk. Conversely, there were also not enough cliche moments, if that makes sense. The Kilngons got their arses whooped way too easily. The death toll of innocents in the ending sequence far outweighed the successes of the Enterprise crew before that. Sorry if that is a bit of a spoiler. But the stage has been set for future ST films to be more like the series, and so I am looking forward to seeing more of these new actors facing cosmic foes.

Brit and I have to see the movie at Marcus (they're the only theater in the area that offers captions) or we would probably join you.
