You may already have strong feelings about this movie. If not, you probably will by the time it is over. There seems to be a love/hate thing about Johnny Depp as Tonto, for instance....but I thought Mr. Ebert gave a beautiful intro (particular bits seemed appropriate for this particular audience):
"'The Lone Ranger' is a movie with no constituency to speak of. It's a gigantic picture with a klutzy, deeply un-cool hero based on a property that most young viewers don't know or care about....Too bad: for all its miscalculations, this is a personal picture, violent and sweet, clever and goofy. It's as obsessive and overbearing as Steven Spielberg's "1941" — and, I'll bet, as likely to be re-evaluated twenty years from now, and described as 'misunderstood.'" We will meet in the smooshy chair section adjacent to the ticket counter area. The movie starts at 4pm. **Please note that, to sit together, we should buy our tickets at the same time, as you must choose your seat at the time of purchase.**
Post-movie, I'm suggesting Cafe Porta Alba for their excellent Neopolitan-style pizza. To view the menu ahead of time, visit: http://www.cafeportaalba.com/pdf/pacdinner.pdf.
