Dungeons & Dragons

This is old school paper & pencil, tabletop fantasy roleplaying. I'm talking about original D&D, AD&D, and the retro-clone Swords & Wizardry.

You don't need experience, noobs are welcome! The game is fun and easy to learn. Pre-generated characters (of 6th level) will be provided so we can jump in with both feet and start playing immediately. This will be a wilderness exploration of the purple islands... a mysterious realm of fiendish creatures, weird magic, and savage humanoids.

This might be my last RPG meetup for awhile, so if you've been itching to learn the game or take part in a gonzo, science-fantasy one-shot, this is your chance. Also, the Sequoia Library is a great place to play.

As some of you would probably agree, this was more of a campaign style game than a one-shot. But I still enjoyed the experiment. Seeing it in action will make The Islands of Purple-Haunted Putrescence a better book. For those curious, I wrote a short blog post last night after the game: http://vengersatanis.blogspot.com/2014/04/that-miraculous-15.html

That was by far the largest group of D&D gamers I ever played with. Ridiculousness tends to exponentially grow with more minds at work, and this was an example of that. I can see why most people would shy away from such large gatherings, but the chaos felt rather welcome to me this afternoon. :D

Indeed. That might just have been the largest group of players I've GMed for. Let Chaos reign!

Very instructive and fun. Not everything worked perfectly, but I think the purple islands made an impression. Thanks to everyone who participated. You were an awesome group!

I was just asked to go to work early this afternoon, and now won't be able to make it. Have fun, though! Hopefully I can make it next time?

Will dice be provided for us, who will DM, and can we roll our own characters? This sounds like an awesome Meetup by the way. I'm planning on going.

I will be the Dungeon Master. Dice will be provided, but please feel free to bring your own if you already have them.

I'll be at Library Room A a half-hour early. If you arrive around 12:30pm, we can go through the process of making you a character from scratch - should take about 15 to 20 minutes.

I am not sure if I can make this but it brings up some old memories.
