In the first meetup in September someone asked about wood gasification as an alternative source of fuel. I found this link (wonderful site for self-sufficiency discussions) about the subject that looks like it covers pros and cons and how to accomplish this kind of project.­

This is the most impressive one I've seen to date. Yes that's a lot, but have you priced a steam engine? Same with sterling.

I was interested in this about 10 years ago, but my understanding was that from using wood as the source there was a lot or tar or stuff that gummed up a motor pretty fast, ever with extreme filters.
