Let's have a potluck at Brian's in Glendale!

  • July 14, 2012 · 4:00 PM

Sziasztok!

A magyar i’zeknek mindig sikere van, teha’t pro’ba’ljunk azokhoz ragaszkodni!

Nanda

***********************************************

Hi everyone!

It's Potluck Time again and Brian is hosting it in his home in Glendale again.
As usually, please bring some food (preferably Hungarian!): soup, casserole, dessert, anything. Brian is hosting it for 30 of us, so if everyone brings one of the following for the group, we will have a great event!

1. A Hungarian appetizer, main dish, soup, salad, anything

2. If you can’t cook, some alcoholic or non-alcoholic drink

3. Dessert, e.g. pogacsa, palacsinta, etc

Let’s stick to Hungarian flavors (plenty of recipes online, or you can buy something from Duna Csarda or Maximillians, Alpine Village or Jon’s) and please note in your RSVP what you plan to bring (so we don’t have three of us bringing the same thing.)

If you could bring the recipe too that would be perfect!

I hope many of us can make it there.

Nanda

I'm making Gulyas Leves. My Mom used to put in carrots. Recipe in book does not list carrots. QUESTION: Carrots YES? Carrots NO?

    July 14, 2012

MONIKA:NO NOT 1:30. Party starts at 4:00. Most likely 5:00 by the time people get here. I won't be ready at 1:30.

DOG?? I'm guessing it might be OK.. So far, only humans have RSVP'd. Does it bark alot?

My Hungarian cook is on strike because the weather is too hot for cooking and baking. Will have to stop by our beloved (cough cough) Otto's on the way and will bring Hungarian soft drinks if he has any. Otherwise I will buy something that hasn't expired.

I may have some paper plates. Will look in the morning.

    July 13, 2012

For some reason I did not yet receive the email with the address Can you resend? I'm ready! Cake is in the oven, and hungarian vocab list is in my purse

No Movie. Can't find the screen...(unless I find it in morning) Otherwise we will have to rely on good old fashioned social skills. Hope everyone is good for tomorrow. If anyone has any bowls, or plates, paper, or otherwise..let me know. I am a few short. (no...not brain cells..although some have told me so). Otherwise I will go buy some.

I will bring chicken paprikash :)

Glad I'm not the chicken. SO: I just emailed the address!!

    July 12, 2012

  • Fred K

I'll bring some surprise chicken. (It will be a surprise to the chicken as well.)

    July 12, 2012

  • Arpad M

Please don't forget to post exact location.

    July 11, 2012

  • Brian L.

I have 4 Hurka rings in the freezer I'll throw in the oven.

    July 11, 2012

  • Nanda D.

Just an observation: so far with the exception of two dishes everything is vegetarian. If someone wants to grab some kolbasz or hurka and toss it in the oven, that would nicely complement the rest of the menu. The only other thing missing now is soft drinks.

  • Arpad M

Magyaros túróval töltött gombafejek - remélem találok hozzávalót, Hungarian mushroom heads filled with cheese. I'll give it a try, just don't have high expectations. :P

  • Nanda D.

... which is why we list things in advance... Arpad, ajanlom figyelmedbe a fenti "Hun Quickies" linket! :)

    July 11, 2012

  • Arpad M

Oh, no. I was planning to bring padlizsankrem too :)

    July 11, 2012

  • Levi F.

We couldn't decide on the cooking side yet (planning “Vineta” = erdelyi padlizsankrem), but we are planning to bring a few bottles of Hungarian wines. More updates soon.

Hmm I always thought "Hun Quickies" were something entirely different. Sadly I must report, contrary to previous advertising, there will be no excellent beigli being offered forth on my part. The Hungarian cook is still deciding what to cook. Update will come as quickly as the chef decides. :-)

This one is for the guys: http://www.zoltech.net/h/hunfood.html - This page is described as "Hungarian recipes for the single guy: Hun Quickies" :)

Koszi!

    July 10, 2012

    Sides:
Klara - uborka salata (cucumber salad) - or...?
Nanda: Kis segitseget kernek, a kerdojel arra utal, hogy adjak meg egy alternativat is?

    July 10, 2012

  • Nanda D.

Please be responsible for your own dish, don't expect others to bring parts of it. In the past we had people bring for example a spread, but no bread, or a soup but no soup balls... Let's think it over and try to bring everything. :-D

    July 10, 2012

  • klara

Hi everyone! This is my first meeting with the group, I am very excited! I will be a little late but I am definitely coming and bringing some "uborka salata". Oh, and a movie sounds great Brian!

    July 10, 2012

  • Brian L.

IMPORTANT NOTE: You will not be allowed to enter the festivities unless you are smiling. We will not allow you to leave, unless you are laughing, (and full)!

    July 10, 2012

  • Nanda D.

Everyone: the location will only be emailed to those who RSVP yes (and have a profile photo posted). Please indicate in your RSVP what you plan to bring and if someone else is already bringing that, please change your plans. Thanks.
