MSTC offers a meditation time for people a half an hour before some of our classes. These sessions are open to anyone on a drop-in basis. After the meditation session, you are welcome to stay if there is an open class scheduled on that Sunday.
The Mahayana Sutra ad Tantric Center of Washington, DC (or MSTC-WDC) is a Tibetan Buddhist group following the Gelugpa traditons of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. Our group was founded by the late Sermey Khensur Rinpoche Lobsang Tharchin in 1979. We offer classes open to everyone, in Tibetan Buddhism, meditation including mindfulness and guided meditations and the occasional classes in Tibetan language. We also offer ceremonies open to anyone such as our Monthly Medicine Buddha recitation (in English). Our classes emphasize the application of these wisdom and spiritual practices from Tibet, to today's modern life in the 21st century. We welcome newcomers to Buddhism as well a long time practitioners. All of our events/classes take place in a private residence in Fairfax, VA. We are very close to George Mason University and the Burke, Va area.
MSTC-WDC has been active and offering classes in the Fairfax area since 1991 Several members of our center have been active in volunteering within the Fairfax community at-large. All of classes are offered free of charge. (Donations are gratefully acceptd although not necessary to attend any of our events/classes.)
