March Main Line Writers Group Meeting

The March Main Line Writers Group meeting: Writing Websites and Communities! The trends among users and what writers MUST KNOW about them to be successful in their writing and marketing efforts.

Nicole Valentine, writer and VP at figment.com will discuss the growth on writing websites - and how writers are collaborating through websites such as figment, fictionaut, scribd. She is VP of Prod/Technology at Figment.com, a young adult, online community devoted to reading and writing fiction.

During her fifteen-year career, she's been an internet CTO for large media organizations and small internet startups. She began her career as a UNIX web programmer in 1995 and went on to build the first web presence for CNN.com's financial news network. Her private consulting firm has worked with large financial institutions, online media organizations, and small startups.

Nicole is well-versed in the realm of digital storytelling, interactive learning and transmedia convergent technologies. She earned her B.A. at Fordham University in New York. Nicole is currently earning her Masters in Young Adult Fiction from the Vermont College of Fine Arts and working on a young adult novel.

Nicole recently gave an outstanding presentation at the Brandywine Valley Writers Group. Regardless of your genre, everyone will find her presentation relevent to their work as a writer today!

Wednesday, March 21, 2011 - meeting begins at 7 pm.

Our meeting place is Michael's Restaurant in King of Prussia, just north of The King of Prussia Mall on Rt 202. The address is 130 Town Center Road in King of Prussia,[masked]-3265. The meeting officially starts at 7:00 pm but many of us come early (beginning at 6pm) to eat and socialize a bit - but you can order your meal at any time during the meeting. We use a private room; the lighting and the acoustics are great. You'll have no problem hearing our speaker or each other. Just a reminder that you can order a scrumptious meal at Michael's off their extensive menu. PLEASE use the Meetup response to let us know whether you are coming as quickly as you can: it helps us plan for the evening. As always, feel free to bring a friend! If you have any questions, please contact me at [masked]. I hope to see you there.

This was an exceptional meeting - an informal presentation on using contemporary tools such as online writing communities and phone apps for getting critiques, publicity, and marketing. Nicole Valentine, who led the discussion, is knowledgeable, imaginative, and articulate.

Amazing, simply amazing. Nicole gave a fantastic presentation, covering online communities and other topics involving writing and technology. Nicole offered insights from both a writer's and a technologist's standpoint. Thank you thank you thank you. And thanks to the writers who attend!

Nicole Valentine was excellent as a speaker. Great information on how to use the various social networking and writer-networking sites to your advantage as a undiscovered writer. In short: the Web is your friend if you are an unknown/unpublished writer. Put your work out there and find out what the world thinks of it, because, at the end of the day, if you ever do get published, the world is going to have an opinion. Find out early and re-work.

But you have to like the enthusiasm she had for us unknowns: "You're a writer you're writing. You are a writer."

    And, you are.

But I'm not looking for a stamp on my head to prove it. :D

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
