February Main Line Writers Group Meeting - Critique!

The February Main Line Writers Group meeting is Critique Night! Get constructive feedback on your current writing projects by other members of the group.

You don't have to bring anything to the group if you don't wish to do so. You can participate by offering feedback on those who do bring pieces for critique and are welcomed to do so.

If you do wish to have a piece critiqued, please follow these guidelines: - Bring a piece or excerpt from a piece approximately 5 pages long - Please bring seven to eight copies, double spaced and typed - If you would like to distribute it ahead of time, please contact Gary at [masked]. We often need to break into smaller groups to ensure that all pieces get a reasonable amount of time for reading and reviewing. If you send it to me, I will ensure that it gets to people who have indicated that they intend to come to the meeting.

Our meeting place is Michael's Restaurant Deli in King of Prussia, just north of The King of Prussia Mall on Rt 202. The address is 130 Town Center Road in King of Prussia,[masked]-3265. The meeting officially starts at 7:00 pm but many of us come early (around 6) to eat and socialize a bit - but you can order your meal at any time during the meeting. We use a private room and the acoustics are great. You'll have no problem hearing our speakers or each other.

Just a reminder that you can order a scrumptious meal at Michael's off their extensive menu. We don't get charged for the great room, but Michaels does have the expectation that attendees will order a meal. It is a fair expectation and the meals are very reasonably priced.

Mark your calendar for every third Wednesday of the month. Feel free to tell others and bring a friend or two.

As usual, any questions, please contact me, Gary Zenker, at[masked] or [masked]. We are all looking forward to seeing you there.

Last night was inspiring and challenging. The critiques were real, the atmosphere supportive. I enjoyed giving critiques as much as having my own work critiqued. Truly blessed to hang with such talented people.

It was great! I came flying in late, and our wonderful host,Gary Zenker, gave me his seat. I was immediately immersed in a supportive, intelligent and perceptive group. What fun, and I think I even made some new friends!

Great, useful critique as always, and a chance to respond to (and enjoy) an outstanding short/short story. A great meeting!

Awesome. How else would you describe the experience of being in a group of amazingly talented writers who present their work for YOUR reaction. After each critique, I realize even more how much I learn from reading other authors' work AND from listening to other authors comments. And the group is warm, inviting and involving!

Excellent feedback and it is equally useful to read other people's work and think about theirs from a writerly point of view and hear comments on their work.

It is so interesting and inspiring to see the work of MLW members improve and improve over the months. The offerings in our critique group were dazzling. It was clear everyone was having fun with their writing even as their techniques have become more professional. They know what they are doing and why. awesome.

One more thing: I also found reading aloud very helpful, so much so that this morning I bought a $2 app for my iphone (Speak it!) that will read anything aloud in a half decent text-to-speech voice. Great for reviewing my work on the commute. There is a similar function in the Google Play app for Android, so I understand.

Pure talent! I got to read some really good writing tonight. It made me want to up my own game. The people who attend are a great mix of serious writers with enough heart and hope and dream left in them that I'm reminded why I have to keep at it. I love when I can hang out with smart people!

Your notes were very helpful. Thanks for a careful and thoughtful read.

Thanks for your insights last night. This was the first time I had anyone critique this work outside of friends and family. I'll be back.

I enjoyed last night very much. I received some valuable feedback and was glad to listen to what other folks were writing even though I was freezing. I have a suggestion. Could the groups curb their entheusiasm a a little? It was very difficult to hear.

I thought it was a very useful exercise. It helps both the writer & the reader. I particularly like that the exercise asks the writer to "read" his/her own writing and that it also eventually helps the reader to write.

Always a great time at Main Line Writers. Well-organized meetup and great critique groups. I'd been away from this meetup for about a year....forgot what I was missing. I'll be back next month.

Tonight's critique session was very insightfull and helpful. Thanks to all who contributed.

This session was incredibly helpful to me and I didn't even submit anything to be critiqued! The feedback was honest but constructive and well-intentioned. It would be perfect for a writer of any level, whether you're ready to be critiqued or not. It was amazing hear opinions from so many writers from so many different genres. I am so glad that I went and can't wait to go again.
