The Main Line Anthology will be released later this month. The writing, rewriting, editing and layout is over.  Now the final – and equally important – step begins: marketing.

Whether or not you have a story in the Voices of the Main Line Anthology, we hope that you will help us promote it.

My writer's group, the Main Line Writers, has put out an anthology of poetry and short stories. Come join us at our book release party at Nestology in the King of Prussia Mall this Sunday, 27 October, from 1 to 3 pm!

For Twitter, you'll need to shorten it a little, like so:

2) Feature the book cover as your profile photo in social media. Gary will be sending you a jpeg of the cover of the anthology shortly.  Please make it your profile picture on your social media, at least for a few weeks.  (Research shows that it generates interest if you change your personal photo periodically, so you're helping yourself as well.)

3) Tell people about the book and the book release party! Don't just use social media.  Tell people, email people, call people.  If you're one of the authors, NOW IS THE TIME to send an email to everyone, including the people who wouldn't date you back in High School!

Then send them a reminder the day before the event. Experience shows that people who get a reminder are five times more likely to attend than those who don’t receive the reminder, EVEN IF THEY SAID THEY WOULD GO. People get busy and forget. Make sure you tell them that this event is important to you.

Send Gary a list of the people you THINK will attend so we can estimate the amount of refreshments we will need.

We would like to believe the Mall will generate traffic for us but the truth is this: your invitations will drive the real traffic. Do it for yourself, and do it for your fellow authors.

4) ATTEND THE LAUNCH PARTY! It will be held at Nestology in the King of Prussia Mall on Sunday 27 October from 1 pm to 3 pm.  This will be the first time that the actual hard copy of the anthology will be available. We hope that you all will come out and help us celebrate.

Refreshments will be available at this event.  If you would like to help or bring food, please contact Elizabeth Stoler, who is coordinating this part of the event.

If you have a story in the anthology, please let Gary Zenker know if you plan to attend.  Since the event is only two hours long, so we expect most of you to be there the entire time. Please try to arrive 15 minutes prior and plan for the possibility to stay longer. However, if you have a conflict, you can come for only part of that time.  Again, let Gary know.

What will sell your book is meaningful, positive interaction with potential customers. When someone comes by, make eye contact.  Say “hello,” or something similar.  If that doesn't engage them sufficiently, ask them a question.  It doesn't matter what – you're trying to keep them from just walking away.  Then, if they don't pick up a copy of the book and look at it, mention that you are one of the authors and that the books are for sale.

Also: this a special event.  Dress up a little.  The general rule is to dress one level of formality above the level of the crowd.  Plenty of people (well, Americans) dress sloppily when they go to a mall.  You should dress better.  Think “business casual.”  Look like this event is important to you.

Finally, although the event is scheduled from 1 to 3 pm, there will be setup and breakdown.  If you can help with either of those, contact Gary.

As Jonathan Maberry often says, writing is an art...and publishing is a business.  Once your book is done, you are now in sales.  Your job is now to sell your book.
