MAMP- Acoustic Music Meetup @ The 27 Pub

  • Jan 30, 2014 · 6:00 PM
  • This location is shown only to members

Join us for an acoustic jam at the 27 Pub in Wiscasset, Maine. This is an inclusive jam, not an open mic. Members are encouraged to sing and play along the entire night. This is a new location, and for now, we will be meeting every other Thursday. We will be meeting in the section of the Pub to your right as you walk in, you can't miss us!

The 27 Pub serves delicious food and drink! The Italian cuisine is excellent and their pizza...amazing! Most of us take a dinner break around 7:30. After dinner, we play until it's time to leave...that's up to the owner! Please bring cash to pay for your dinner and drinks.

There is an evolving setlist for this meetup--see the link in the left-hand column of our site. We usually get through all of the requests, most of our "semi- permanent" songs, plus about 20 more songs out of the over five hundred or so songs in our files.

If you would like to add a song to the setlist, make sure it is posted to our site in the "Files" section (see the link in the left-hand column of the site), then post your request in the "get the conversation started" section below.

Please be sure to make copies of the songs that are on the setlist and bring them with you to the meetup. A music stand is helpful but optional.

I would like to schedule the next meetup, but I would prefer to get a sense of what, you, the members prefer as to frequency of meetings.
Please take a moment and let me know, so I can go ahead and schedule!
    Many thanks!

I would never make weekly. Bi-weekly or even monthly would be fine with me. Sometimes I'm tired after working around my farm all day, and sometimes I'm just a moody s.o.b. who doesn't feel like socializing. Nothing personal!

    Angelo,
Weekly would be great. But bi-weekly is ok if that is how it works out.

  • Chad T.

Had fun! BTW, anybody can find me who cares to at www.facebook.com/chadthornemusic.

I just wanted to thank all of you that were able to make our first meeting a wonderful success! I had a great time! I also wanted to thank our host Mark at 27 Pub.
Can you please tell me if you would prefer meeting weekly or bi-weekly?
Thank you, and don't forget to rate this evenings event!

    January 30, 2014

    • Sockna

      I'd prefer bi-weekly myself

      January 31, 2014

    • Chad T.

      me too

Thursday is a bad night for me right now... a rehearsal night for HAIR. When that changes... is it kosher to bring ones spouse along as a guest? Or, should she sign up first before attending? Thanks!

    January 30, 2014

    • angelo

Just wanted to let you know, Mark, our next meetup will be on a Monday night!

      January 30, 2014

    • Mark M.

It figures... we are rehearsing right now... Thursdays... and MONDAYS! (and Saturday afternoons) *sigh*... Glad you had a good first meeting!

      January 31, 2014

  • Joseph M.

Fantastic evening. Great people, good music. And the food? Awesome, definitely not a pizza joint!

    January 30, 2014

  • Kathy W.

reason is it is a bit far to go ..and I don't want to be tempted by the smell of pizza all night. I am in Brunswick...

    January 30, 2014

  • Kathy W.

I'm sorry, but I will not be able to make it tonight.

    January 30, 2014

  • angelo

    OK Everybody!
Tonight's the night! To make sure we're all on the "same page", please be sure to print out copies of ALL the songs on our setlist including the semi-permanent ones!
Until we are sure we'll be able to use the wi-fi at 27 Pub we will have to "old school" it (bring your laptops and iPads anyway)!
If there are any questions please ask them here!
    See you later!

Maybe we could add a rousing rendition of "This Land Is Your Land" in memory of Pete Seeger?

    1 · January 29, 2014

    • angelo

      Great idea! Yes we will!!

      1 · January 29, 2014

  • Chad T.

I'm really looking forward to this!

    January 26, 2014

    • Chad T.

Well, if we did "Sweet and Shiny Eyes," "I'll Fly Away," "All I Have to Do Is Dream" that would be o.k.

      January 26, 2014

    • angelo

OK Chad! Check the set-list! They should now be there. You can copy and bring or bring a laptop or Ipad device!

      January 26, 2014

  • Sockna

Any of the Paul Simon songs, and I'll Fly Away is a great one. Harvest Moon, Passionate Kisses. All I have to do is Dream. Helpless. The Water is Wide. Bus Stop. Willin'. Jamaica Farewell. Gotta Travel On. I'll Be Your Baby Tonight. People Get Ready. etc. etc. Some other songs I'd love to sing that I don't see on the list: Beatles "Words of Love" and "I've just seen a face". Also Billy Joel's "River of Dreams" and "Longest Time".

I am going to try to come.(weather and life permitting) I also play a mean spoons...or use to,,,haven't in a while,,,but !! I sang with Women In Harmony for 8 years, however, am a bit out of practice. This sound like it could be a good fit. I'm not much of a "pub" kinda person...but will give it a try

    1 · January 26, 2014

    • angelo

That's good news!! Give it the ol' college try!! It's the only way you'll ever know if you like it or not...but I know you will! Pick some songs from the song files and post on this thread. I'll put them on the set list!

      January 26, 2014

  • angelo

Ok folks! So our first meetup will be next Thursday! If you haven't RSVP'd one way or the other yet,I would sincerely appreciate it if you would! Thank you!

    January 23, 2014

  • Chad T.

Nice and close to my house. I play a lot of folk, blues, bluegrass, so getting on some of those old '60s and '70s chestnuts ought to be fun! Anybody for a bluegrass version of "Purple Haze?"

    January 19, 2014

    • angelo

Pick out some songs from the song file, on the lower left hand side of the MAMP page, then let me know and I'll post them to the set list.

      January 19, 2014

  • angelo

Hey folks! remember if you're coming to the first meetup of our group, please look at the song files and using this conversation thread let me know which songs you'd like to add to the set list!
And Paula, we are striving for a good time, not perfection! So please come if you feel comfortable!

    January 19, 2014

    • Chad T.

Nah. I prefer to be surprised lol...

Thank you all! My guitar teacher tells me the same thing, I need to get out there and play with people. And get my butt kicked! I need to go over the setlist and the songs, so maybe you'll see me. It's on my calendar, along with "eat my wheaties and put on my big girl panties" :-)

I think you're all too advanced for me...I was thinking this might be a way for me to learn to play with others. And also, I'm not at all a night person...by late afternoon my brain is fuzz, so I guess I'll keep looking for something more suited to a retiree's schedule. Have fun!

I'm no pro (in fact I don't play I just sing) so would welcome folks who are at any level. For me the fun is making music with others, not performance or being perfect.

      January 18, 2014

    • Chad T.

Paula, looks like you're welcome. As a performing musician of almost 50 years, I can tell you that playing with others is about the best way to progress on an instrument. It kinda kicks your butt (in a good way) and the next thing you know you're playing better than you useta.

      January 19, 2014

  • Mark M.

Would love to come! However, I am currently Music Director for Hair, and Thursday is one of our regular rehearsal nights right now. Production is April 18/19... will definitely see you after that!

    January 19, 2014

  • angelo

    HI Paula!
Soxna is right! The meetup welcomes musicians of all skill levels! We welcome all acoustic players, and that includes guitar, mandos, ukes, fiddles, harmonica, voice, spoons, washboards ...you name it! And it's all about having a good time...not about being perfect!

    January 18, 2014

  • angelo

Just a couple of things to all because I see there are some time and travel issues!
Please be aware that even though the meetup may begin at 6:00 PM, it is perfectly OK not to be there on time! When I was a part of NJAMP in NJ, folks arrived when they arrived! Of course it you can make it at 6 that would be great!
We always stopped at about 7:30 for dinner but some folks would come afterwards!
Many of these establishments close early during the week so between playing time and a dinner break... time really flies!! it would be difficult to start later.
I would also consider trying to find a suitable venue in Brunswick and then alternate locations.

Please let me know your thoughts, suggestions!

    Sorry, can't make that time.

    January 18, 2014

  • angelo

Since the Pub has Wi-Fi, I guess we could also access the song sheets from the setlist from a laptop or iPad etc.

    January 17, 2014

  • angelo

I'd like to play,"Helpless", "You Ain't Goin' Nowhere", " I Hear Them All", " Secret to A Long Life".
