Some people run for pride, glory, or accomplishment. We Run 4 Trash (and a cleaner environment)!
Ever notice how much trash there is when you're out on your morning walk, jog, run, bike ride, hike, skip, etc.? Well, there is A LOT! That's where the Maine Trash Runners come in. We come from all walks of life and all different backgrounds, but we have a shared passion for taking care of our environment. And it doesn't matter how fast or slow you think you may be, its all about getting some exercise, picking up some trash, and having a fun while doing it.
Join us once a month as we grab our bags, tie on our shoes, move our feet, and pick up some trash. Each month we'll try to hit up a location or race and do our part to make Maine a little bit cleaner.
It's a trashy job, but somebody's gotta do it!
Keep it clean!
Q: "Do I have to be a serious runner to participate?"
A: Serious can mean so many things but participants do need to be able to jog at a pace that is faster than speed walking to stay with the group. If you are picking up trash/recycling you'll occasionally need to sprint as well but we keep it to an overall slower pace so that people can grab trash and recycling and catch up to the moving cart to deposit items without passing out. The cart even stops for heavily littered areas. We'll take turns pushing the cart too.
Q: "Are gloves and bags provided?"
A: Yes! I think we have just latex ones at the moment...some of us also run without gloves (especially in the summer).
