Sahra has offered to run a basic 3D Modelling session for those interested in learning the skills required to create models that can be transformed to reality on the 3D Printer.

We will cover some free modelling tools, including SketchUp and TinkerCAD, and some of the more serious ones like Rhino and AutoCAD.

To get yourself ready for the session, download some software and have a play before you come:

https://tinkercad.com/
http://www.rhino3d.com/

Bring your own laptop with at least some of the above software installed. Please also bring an extension lead and powerboard.

You can find some sample 3D models on Thingiverse:

A fun project I'd like to work on with others who know more about LEDs and electronics.

Sorry ignore my last comment, I looked at the first link posted by Sahra expecting the article at the second link she posted in this discussion. All the TIME it was me who lost the PLOT(CLOCK)!

Another name for a device like the Plotclock or La Machine 'a Ecrire le Temps would be a "Write Time" As in "Have you got the Write Time Eccles? No I left it at home but i got it to write down the time on a piece of paper!

Not this month! (BTW Sahra, I think your hat's not level! Although judging from Cam's photo his head isn't level ;~ ) Not that I should talk about personal appearance.)

Paddy made the hat as he was mucking around learning to sew on the sewing machine so he must've sewn it 45˚ off.

Have I mentioned here that a friend is clearing out a flat in Hawthorn East. Feb is last chance to take anything including dirty bar fridge, ~ 60 kg of IT books & mags & similar mass on other subjects, bed? couch, (... I'm way overdue making a better list, which I can then post.) All has to be picked up, neither he nor I have a motor vehicle. If interested in something message me!

I'm sorry, I'm a bit snowed under with a backlog of work, so won't be making it to this tonight after all.
I can still drop by later in the evening; will discuss potential talk on NeoPixel LEDs then.

Hope you all have fun tonight, hope to see you all on wednesday!!

I hope everyone is looking forwards to the 3D modelling session tonight!

The link below will take you to a pdf I've prepared which covers the material we'll be going through. If you like you can print it out in readiness for tonight. The Tempietto (one of my favourite buildings) is there as a challenge for anyone who hasn't got their own specific modelling project in mind.

Please bring a mouse if you're modelling, the trackpads work but it can feel a bit awkward.

    See you tonight!

If you are coming by car and can manage it, please also bring yourself a chair... with the crowd we're expecting tonight, we might be running out of seating very quickly, though we'll of course have standing room.

We're going to start with SketchUp, but after an hour or so on that we'll work individually or in groups (your choice) so you can go to town with whatever software you like. I'll try to help you make your own projects.

I can bring a few laptops + mice, so people can have a play on their own, if you like?

      February 19, 2014

    • Cameron L.

Why not, just in case anyone doesn't have their own. Thanks Dave.
BTW, we've got our internet speed upped too now, so if we need to download and install anything, can do it Monday... will be fast!

I decided to start Reno Motorcycle Riders Group because I wanted to be part of a group of people who enjoyed my passion... I was excited and nervous. Our group has grown by leaps and bounds. I never thought it would be this big.
