Everyone loves the smell of fresh-cut wood, especially when you’re the one cutting it. This is our most popular course because, well, everyone loves woodworking. The skills learned in this 18-hour course provide a solid foundation to build on whether you want to build furniture, refinish an antique, or fix the trim on the house.
Starting with the basics, students learn to use all the various stationary equipment and hand tools safely and effectively. This gives you the experience you need to be able to solve problems on your own projects later.
As you gain experience you will be exposed to woodworking theory, the nature of wood and stock selection of raw lumber, minimization of waste through thoughtful milling practices, squaring up their lumber, and how to work from a plan as you make your first project. You will also learn proper finishing techniques, and how to tune machinery for the best cutting applications.
Students who complete this track are signed off to use the woodshop and wood lathe whenever they like as members. This course meets once a week for 6 weeks.
