Asian American Filmlab 72 hour Shootout Discussion

Hey Everyone,

I just found out about a cool 72 hour film contest that is put on by the Asian American Film Lab. It's very similar to the film Spark 48 hour film contest, but on a larger scale.

Here is a link to the website and also last years past entries:

http://www.asianamericanfilmlab.org/72-Hour-Shootout.html

There is no limit to ethnicity, but a key production member and lead actor need to be of Asian descent, so I guess that's where I come in. Obviously I can't do this all by myself and would rather work the members of this group again!

We have talented individuals in this group in all areas of expertise and I think this would be a fun project to work on. Especially if you want to build your reel as an actor.

The winner and 2nd and 3rd place teams win cash and prizes from sponsors.

We can get the early bird special registration fee of $25 if we register online as a team by March 31st. The shootout itself is going to be from 8pm May 31st to June 3rd.

The only preparations teams are allowed to make before the shoutout are:

- assembling a cast and crew

- scouting locations

- securing equipment

Everything else must be created within the 72 hour window.

I just wanted to see if there is any interest from the group in participating in this contest.

If not, I'm going to compete as a solo filmmaker which won't be much fun :(

Please post a reply if you have a suggestion for the location of this meetup so we can discuss who will be involved. I'm the only one in the Chapel Hill area, so I guess we should meet in Cary.

Thanks!

Jordan Wong

Looking forward to seeing everyone at Panera tonight! Please think about the roles you would want to serve as part of the project: Writing Team
    Location Scout
    Camera
    Lighting
    Sound/Music
    Script Supervisors
    Cast
    Directors
Anything else you can think of!

The shoot isn't until June, but it would definitely help to have another camera handy. As long as the quality is the same.

Naturally, those of us with day to day jobs would have some problems being available for 72 hours straight. -- To say nothing of sleep. Interesting idea! Now if only we had a bunch of flying rigs to make a varient of Crouching Tiger (etc) (typed pre-coffee, sorry about any significant typos..)

Bill, the movie has a max length of 5 minutes. I'm thinking we can get the shooting done on Saturday and then take all the time needed for the editing.

Sounds passable... with a common storage environment, you could have 2-3 people doing editing at the same time.

I would like to be considered for acting. I've done a couple of the 48 hour film fests in Greensboro. I'm in Fayetteville. I would meet in Cary.
