Orlando Japan Festival

A fun festival that we visit every year! There's always taiko and shamisen by Matsuriza, traditional dance and music by Kodomo Buyo-kai / Wakafuji-kai and Yoshino-kai, martial arts and tea ceremony demonstrations, cosplay, delicious food, and many vendors including those great deals at the Mitsukoshi bazaar.

Special Koto Perfomance by Masayo Ishigure Picture

She has been featured in two public television broadcasts, Music Under New York, and World of Music. In 1997, she recorded koto music for CBS Master Work for use during the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics. She has recorded koto music for use in several television commercials.

She recorded music for the soundtrack of the movie "Memoirs of a Geisha" by John Williams in 2005 along with Yitzhak Perlman, Yo Yo Ma, and others.

First time at the festival and I had a blast, I bought so many Japanese baby books haha. I don't have kids but they are great for helping you remember your Hiragana! Met some fun people and hope to get involved with some of the other clubs I saw out there!

Had a wonderful time. Can't wait to go to another event. Everything was done excellent. Would like the vendors to bring more higher end goods. Would have purchased more items if there was any.

It's an outdoor shopping plaza. The festival is on the green that runs down between the two halves of the plaza. I'm planning to connect with members of the Tampa Japanese Meetup at the clocktower around 11:45. I could be there a little earlier too.

Just wear shorts or capri pants and a shirt with a low or V-neckline so your "under" clothes doesn't show. :-)

That's great Esther! I bought a yukata recently and need to learn how to put it on. Do you think you could help me with it?

Okay. (^_~)' I'd suggest you ask Rie-san (the professional) for help, but I'm sure she'll be mega-busy! So I'll pass on my mediocre skill. LOL Bring two cords (grosgrain ribbon, long shoelace, etc.) that are big enough to tie around your hips. Do you have an obi?

I'm really excited about this event and I look forward to seeing everyone. Is anyone going to be wearing a yukata or dress up?
